CHiPs

Ah, I used to watch that show all the f----n time. Oh, we're past that swearing thing yeah? ha ha. Poncho and the haole guy (c'mon, you know we only know Poncho) and 'dem tight a$$ spandex uniforms. S---, keep forgetting we done with the swearing.

Everyday as I drive/ride into work I witness dozens of people with no regard for the rules of the road. And every time I see a lawbreaker I just can't help but wonder if we had "CHiPs", would our highways/freeways be just a bit safer and traffic just a little better, especially for carpoolers.

I not going lie, I use that lane all the time (just to clarify, not the zipper lane) but I follow the rules - "Two or more in one vehicle" and "motorcycles ok". Then I see the crackers driving single not even keeping up with traffic - and let me point out that if it wasn't the car pool lane that it's still the LEFT lane designated as a passing lane.

Just this morning there were four cars in front of me going slightly slower than the "flow", then all of a sudden they switch over. No, I wasn't calling 'em out. They switched because they know it's a police trap coming up (H1 by Radford) and they nevah like get caught.

Wassap Wit Dat?

It happens every morning going town then every pau hana going Ewa. I'm just thinking at how much clearer the car pool lane would be if there wasn't those who illegally drive in it. It would also motivate drivers to carpool knowing that they could get wherever they're going a little faster.

What trips me out is that because everyone who uses H1 knows exactly where HPD "camps" out, they adjust accordingly - meaning switching lanes then illegally switching back after passing "the trap". What if we had a CHiPs type program where they would constantly be on the road looking for "bad drivers"?

There's also the drivers who illegally change lanes when it's either a solid line or a dotted solid. As a motorcycle rider, whenever I come across a dotted solid I my fingers are ready to pull the brake lever because I know at least one person will change lanes against it because 1)they late, 2)they impatient or 3)they just no kea.

You tink CHiPs would help with the freeway racing? I think it would help with everything regarding the roads because there would be the "fear" that there's a cop roaming the roads looking for drivers who break the rules. You would start to think twice before driving like Speed Racer. You also wouldn't know where the "traps" were so you would be more vigilant about driving, according to the law.

Eh, I just salty had people in the car pool lane going slow this morning...but it would be funny to see those tight pants make a comeback.

maybe you gotta be the one to bring the tight pants back?? lol!!

isn't that what motorcycle cops are supposed to be for?? it seems that we have a problem with the laws cuz no more anyone really enforcing them. the HPD "traps" are always in the shade...so if i'm doing anything illegal (which i NEVER do...) i always switch back before i hit the overpasses with shoulder lanes!! they only seem to camp out where they'll be comfortable! having a CHiP like entity, or the biker cops, to actually patrol (gasp!) everywhere and not just under shaded shoulder lanes might actually prompt people to follow the law!!

the hubby jus got an HOV lane violation ticket a few weeks ago. btw, you cannot just pay those tickets, you gotta actually go to court! $75 for the first offense. anyways, he got it during pau hana traffic right there near Radford...when he told me where i said the same thing..."what?? you know the popo's are always kickin' it over there!! if u are gonna drive in the carpool lane illegally you gotta switch lanes before the zipper thing or after the aiea exit where theres no shoulder lane already!" a'cmon...er'body knows that!!

I can't stand those f-----n cheaters. Ooops. Yah, I used to cheat like you too Lance. Unfortunately I got caught cruising in the carpool lane on the way to work one day and had to pay a $95 fine. From that day I have never driven in that lane unless I had either someone with me or my blow up doll...I only use her for cheat in the carpool lane. LOL. Anyway, you probably right. If we had a highway patrol like California or something, one where cops actually worked only on the freeways and such maybe would have less speeders and cheaters. But alas, all our cops do is throw on white gloves and work special duty. BTW, they only use the gloves 2-3 times then they get a new one on us tax payers. Dirty cops, never around when you need um. Oops, thinking out loud again. SO what was the Poncho's partners name?

well CHiPs was before my time but i DEFINITELY on the traffic Braddah Lance! i'm one who drives solo into town each morning & back home in the afternoon...let me just say, HELLO!?! slower traffic keep right! there's even signs that tell you so. oh and you know what gets me? when people drive in the far left lane on the H1 by Halawa...yeah you know the one that's and EXIT ONLY to go Pearlridge/Aiea...but they drive in that lane so they no need wait and then cut over when it's double solid! i see it everyday.

the best was when i was coming into town and was on nimitz. you know how you can go express lane (by the airport) and come out on nimitz then you merge yah? well had a couple motorcycle popo there and they were ticketing the cars that only had 1 person...woohoo! that made my day even if it did slow traffic a little bit cuz had to give them room to pull over & then let them back into traffic...it was worth it!

oops....supposed to say DEFINITELY on the traffic.
my fingers not moving as fast as my brain this morning :-P

  6. munch [Visitor]:

  8. JuSaMee [Visitor]:

wasn't his partners name john?? lol...now i gotta go and google it!

I see those Solo Bike Officers (I think that's what they are called) and also wonder what they do since you rarely see them on the streets. I also thought that their job was to patrol for violations on the highways.

    I dunno?

Uh, no. That would be a lot of sucking in to do. :o

Roger Dat! Don't they realize that they are in the publice eye and are scrutinized even more so when they appear to be lazy?

Maybe cause he was rushing home to see his lovely wife! You know I gotta catch his back but Braddah, you know the 5-0 is ALWAYS dea!

Whoa Sista, how old you? 15? Jus joke but if you at least 20 you must have seen it at least once. Back then, it was actually a "chic" show because all the girls loved Poncho...and the haole guy.

...slower traffic keep right! there's even signs that tell you so. oh and you know what gets me? when people drive in the far left lane on the H1 by Halawa...yeah you know the one that's and EXIT ONLY to go Pearlridge/Aiea...but they drive in that lane so they no need wait and then cut over when it's double solid! i see it everyday.

Yup, that really pissed me off when I used to live in Aiea...still can't get away from it cause now I live in Pearl City and still get people from the far right lane (which is a PC cutoff ONLY) and then jam their brakes and "force" their way in.

...the best was when i was coming into town and was on nimitz. you know how you can go express lane (by the airport) and come out on nimitz then you merge yah? well had a couple motorcycle popo there and they were ticketing the cars that only had 1 person...woohoo! that made my day even if it did slow traffic a little bit cuz had to give them room to pull over & then let them back into traffic...it was worth it!

Yeah, for some reason when there's heavy traffic I not as irked when I see cars pulled over getting tickets and everybod rubba neckin'. I just say "good for you" but I've always wanted to do the Dikembe Mutombo (shake your head and wag your finger...like he does after every block). ;p

Regarding more traffic cops to monitor HOV violations...not enough cops, period. I don't think HPD has the budget for more cops, plus, they having a hard time finding good recruits and one more plus, mainland police departments recruiting our local cops because they well-trained and not paid as much. Where the cops when you need them, right?

You know, during my morning rush to town from Ewa side, I don't see cops around that HI Radford area but sometimes in the afternoon and non-peak times. I think in the morning rush, pulling over cars will cause further jams. What exactly is the law regarding slow cars in the left lanes? If you moving with the flow, that may be 65+ mph and is a violation. Not so much in the afternoon but I go 60+ in the left lane next to the HOV lane and sometimes use the HOV to pass slower cars and if one car bugging my butt and no cars close in front of me, then I go to the right and let em pass. Generally, I will go with flow...sometimes 70 even. Hah, and I consider myself a safe driver.

Since we on the subject, my concern is the two lanes that merge on H1 and H2 going town-bound by LCC. I never knew who has the right-of-way but it seemed the right lane coming from Waianae would yield to the left lane from Wahiawa but I finally called HPD and it is the Wahiawa cars that suppose to yield to the Waianae cars. Anyway, you don't have enough visibility time or space to know if you need to slow down or speed up, it just comes together too fast so I avoid those lanes all together.

That's a Roger Dat two times! I totally agree that they don't get paid enough but it's a ripple effect right? We need more, we need to pay them more. Wea da moo-lah? People no like pay more and even if we do pay more there's no public confidence that it'll go to HPD.

You know, during my morning rush to town from Ewa side, I don't see cops around that HI Radford area

They're there at least once to twice a week in the morning. Afternoons they are in the Ewa bound but they also set up a speed trap going town bound at the same time.
And a heads up to all - tickets/traps are set up more frequent towards the end of the month and dat's no bu'lai. Quotas are da real deal but not something they boast about.
I neva know about the right of way at the H1/H2 merge. Thanks for the info hemajang! Another "useless" fact stored in my memory bank.

15! eh just because sometimes they like card me at the theatre...:-P i think CHiPs went off air before i turned 1 but they made a movie (Google said so) so maybe i'll have to go watch it :-D

hemajang: yeah that merge is yuck in the morning especially...i'm coming from Wahiawa and if i ever get caught in that lane i always have my blinker on cuz i gotta remember it's a "backward merge" not like you usually see but then i get the funny looks because everyone seems to think it's the other way around haha

There's also the drivers who illegally change lanes when it's either a solid line or a dotted solid. because 1)they late, 2)they impatient or 3)they just no kea.

    It's #3....99.9% of the time.
Not just that but it's whenever some idiot does something stupid.

What they gotta do is put some retractable spikes on them thick solid lines.

The spikes pop up when the idiot cross over it.....flat their tires and render them helpless and make-A.....spikes retract back.
For sure nobody cross em after that.

I play too much Grand Theft Auto. ;-)

  15. MoOgooGuypAN [Visitor]:

das one good point hemajang. I live in Mililani and used to catch that traffic mix up. I always wondered the same thing, but yah, Waianae would "blinker" in. They need one sign that says left lane or right lane merge to the uddah. No, just likae that in pidgin.

  16. MoOgooGuypAN [Visitor]:

You know Lance, das why I like this blog. Cause us maka'ainana can speak our native tongue. No need ack all maka-maka akamai. Actually I'm neither. Hah!
