You Really Good...SYKE!

Da Wife and I was watching some tv last night as we were recouperating from the weekend and began watching "So You Think You Can Dance". We've watched it before but last night was just too much for me.

With all the "reality" shows going on, we all know the first few episodes of the "competition" are the out-takes and...well, really sucky people. Last night was no different as they showed some really bad people but the thing that tripped me out - and I've heard it before on other shows - where a cut contestant is balling to the camera saying that they've been told they were "great" and should be performing and all that kind of bu'lai's.

What went went wrong there? Was this person delusional? People being kind? Mean?

This contestant was bad - more worse, da Braddah had a gold mask on and some tight spandex like he was in WWE (WWF fo' da old school peeps)! Then there was another contestant performing - badly I might add - in his BVD's!

Wassap Wit Dat?

If you've ever been in a bar with karaoke, I'm sure you witnessed your share of bad performances but would you say anything? Would you laugh? Keep quiet? Buy another beer and maybe he/she might sound better?

Me, I no shame and if was one of my friends performing badly they all know I'd tell them they sucked - if they really did. The judges last night was pretty mean to some laughing hysterically at one, and sarcastically lying to another. It's for ratings but what does it do to that person later? There were some really pissed off contestants and with all the pupule people out there who knows what they'd do for "revenge".

Are you performer? Just for family friends? You tink you good? Told you good? Know you good?

No worries, I get my case of Miller Lite and fo' sure you going sound/look good to me.

    I can't dance or sing, I don't even try, I just suck at it....LOL

  2. frankie:

I've been known to slay 'em all at karaoke, but that's because everybody already stay all hash from the Primo! ;-)

I think some people deliberately try to look as bad or stoopid (that's stoopid with 2 O's!) just to get on TV with those shows.

But no one beats Kaba Modern or the Jabbawockeez!

  3. munch:

i am the best at singing & dancing. no one can even come close. i've been told i should do it professionally. :-|
YEAH RIGHT!! i gotta agree with frankie the reality shows like American Idol that have been on for years now have turned into people deliberately showing up in funky costumes, with crazy hair, no hair, bringing props, bringing dramatic family members...talk themselves up like they are God's gift to music and then go in to the audition, wail like a cat in heat that just got hit by a car, then cry and beg for another chance when they get bashed on by the judges. all for a few minutes on tv. what, any airtime is good airtime even if you making "A" i guess?
we were at this sports bar singing karaoke and these guys decided that they could one-up our bunch so they go, "eh dis is how it's done" and they start singing the same songs right after someone from our gang sang it. WWD?! at least none of us were so drunk that we were slurring all the words like those braddahs! haha :-P

Uh, sportsbar, liquid courage, cajones = stoopid (thanks frankie) good fun! I would have challenged them to who can hold their breath longer or a race outside and leave 'em out there.

  5. Coconut Willy:

Nothing worse than hearing the same song butchered twice in a row! I remember those days at Side Street and even the old Kengo's. Don't frequent those places anymore so I subject myself to the pain. Gotta hand it to those who have "no shame" or "no sked"

  6. islandgirl in nc:

I am the worst singer ever! When I was growing up, our church system had song contests where all the churches had to participate and all the Sunday school kids. I remember being told to stand in the second row and mouth the words! I love to sing karaoke, but forget singing in front of strangers. My friends were always so much better than me. It's okay. I knew I would never be an American idol...lol! ;)

  7. JuSaMee:

even thought AI has produced a couple of recording artist i think the "real" talent is still discovered the old fashion way. as for shows like so you think you can dance, american idol, even top chef or project runway, don't we all act like the worse critics when watching? i know from time to time i turn into a singing producer or talent scout when watching reality shows! lol! i do agree that the simon cowell's of the world should just state the facts not rub it in that they don't have talent. if no-talent people want to keep embarrassing themselves then they're just asking for the rest of us to laugh at them...

  8. MoOgooGuypAN:

Aw Lance, you just lost your "man card". What are you doing watching "dance" shows? Hey if you watch Bravo the new season of "Sheer Genius" is coming up... nah nah nah jus joking. Brah, you can watch whateva you like. Free country. Me, I prefer the manly realtiy show of "Hell's Kitchen" with swearing and beefs and food...manly show.

  9. LRob:

    Brah I sound GOOOOOOD....after 6 or 7 Heines...CHEEHOO!

  11. opso:

Kinda hard sometimes to tell somebody they suck at something that they really passionate about.

Just like some of my co-workers who learned volleyball just a few years ago and now they think they da second coming of Yuval Katz or Robin Ah Mow or something when they only improve shmall kine.
Ho da beeeg head they get.....and are now "authorities" of da game.

But they really love the game and it makes them happy so who am I to tell them they suck at it. No like hurt their feelings.
Unless they like enter the Haili Tournament or something.

But not me.....I going quit my day job and go to Q-School to try and qualify for the PGA Tour. ;)

ME TOO! See you there!.....Dey score by double digit handicaps right?

  13. 9th Island Girl:

I love So You Think You Can Dance!

Re. singing, I told everybody I like to go to karaoke, so for some reason everybody assumed that meant I had a good voice. I definitely have no talent, but I just like to sing...in the private rooms at karaoke places, never at an open bar.

  14. mjstc:

Same here, can't sing (not even in the shower) or fast-dance (too self-conscious even after 7 Heine's and some Crown). Yeah, I know WWD, or go figgah! Oh well...

  15. kikaida:

They should ban "Love & Honesty" from the Karaoke bars! Nothing worse than hearing both the guy and the chick ruin what was once a decent song! That's gotta be the worse!!!

  16. Braddah Lance:

    9th Island Girl:
but I just like to sing…in the private rooms at karaoke places, never at an open bar.

Why, just sing from da booth. No one ever knows who's singing...unless you go bathroom and walk by da booth trying fo' be niele.
    .
    .

    mjstc:
...or fast-dance (too self-conscious even after 7 Heine’s and some Crown).

You sure you not "dancing" aftah dat? Maybe just "swaying".

    kikaida:

Totally agree but you can always weed out da wannabes from da real good singers wit dat song but aftah hearing it uku-million times kinda make da song boring real fast. Kinda kill-joy too eh? Everybod singing to all kine songs having a good time den...BAM..."Brown skin, light brown hair..." Bathroom break.

  17. mjstc:

    Braddah Lance -
by that time, I stay already sitting down, doing the head grooving thing, and also still swaying...

  18. Braddah C:

    Ho Braddah Lance,
You goin' need mo than one case Miller Lite befo' I sound good. Even mo' if you like me look good.

  19. Shauna:

that's my favorite reality show of them all!!! :) although the dragged-out audition part is just for the ratings, i still think the dressed-up characters or other ridiculous dancers get what they deserve. if you watch the show (and you think a normal person would before auditioning), you would know what the producers are looking for and see what kind of dancers make the finals.

i think certain people just want TV time. and though the producers know they would never pick that person, they obviously select them anyway.

once the auditions end, then the good part starts! :)

lance, we can compare notes throughout the season. hah!

  20. 10pinmisser:

Hey, singing, dancing, Idoling are the arts. So the viewers of the performer got their own reactions. To each their own.
So the contestants should know that they will be reactions of all natures.
I thought the arts were just for ones entertainment and enlightenment so if the performer enjoys it, that's what's matter.
I got to go work now to make money so I can pay the bills. I will sing along to my favorite "country" (the new pop music or pop music for the 2010s?) song on my way there. If the next driver is amused and drives away happy even though I suck singing along out loud, I'd be happy.
Have a nice sing and dance along y'all!!! Yeehaw! YippeeKaiYai!!!

  21. snow:

I dunno, not to be judgmental (but I will be!), but some of those people just seem... weird! Oh, and, yes, delusional. But, it especially irks me when I see them go out after being rejected and they rant like they were the second coming... and, many times, have parents out there who agree with them! I mean... uhhh... are you blind? or deaf?

Me... I sure as heck can't carry a tune (don't like karaoke, unless I'm in a private room and singing with someone else... who will drown me out!) and like to dance, but I'm not a good dancer! But, it's all good... and it's fun when you can just act a little bit crazy and not be boring! Not like I would try to put myself on TV or anything... yikes!

  22. rn2b:

I like to watch those talent shows (so you think you can dance, american idol) b/c there are some really talented people but I always skip the beginning especially the episodes that do make fun of these people only for ratings. I think its very cruel so I don't watch it, yeah I know those people suck but still I think it's cruel of the network to take advantage of that.

as for singing/dancing, any kind of talent I REALLY SUCK AT IT but I like singing karaoke with my ohana b/c they will tell me that I suck but in a nice way ;)
