Summer...Das A Good Thing Right?
By Braddah Lance
Wow! What a morning yeah?...for those who were fortunate enough to wake up to it.
The sun is out bright, the air has a cool feel to it and the clouds have lifted. What a start to the day...and summer!
At least for me anyways. Saturday was our last baseball game and it's always bitter-sweet come that last team cheer. No mo' practices, no mo' games, no mo' pulling out white hairs (well, I actually stopped that because I wouldn't have much hair left on my head - WWD!).
No mo' sore arm, no mo' whining, no mo' complaining, no mo' babysitting.
I get the use of my truck back - I can wash and clean my truck out now. I can actually sleep in on Saturdays, go hiking, to da beach...whatevahs!
Da Wife yells "Cheee-hooo" while performing a round off double twist front tuck triple twist.
Ok, not even sure if that's a legitimate move or not but sounded good eh?
Then reality hits.
Gotta clean da garage, clean "my area" of da house, do "more" laundry, dishes, spend time with da dogs, run mo' errands - not to mention my work hours just got longer.
All the stuff I've put off for the past four months just moved up to the top of the "to do list" but most - and best of all - spend mo' time with Da Wife!
What marks your "summer"? Do anything different? Or just run up the a/c bill?
Only eight more months........ and counting till next season.

Wassup Wit Dat!

Summer is when we hibernate here...unless you want to be outside when it's 110+. Do lawn work in the early mornings or just before dusk....doesn't matter when, it's still 100+ at midnight most times. The best time to golf is between 10-3...no one is crazy enough to be out there...been there, done that. The place to be is tubing down the river with a cooler and a ghetto blaster with your friends. Or go ice skating or just jump in the pool in the backyard!!!! Wait...the pool temp is 90+, may as well take a bath too

Summer is no different from the rest of the year. I schedule my vacation with the family during the spring or fall break. Summer I get other stuff, like when my wife starts a project, I gotta finish it. Since she works at the school, she does some spring cleaning the beginning of summer break but she doesn't finish it before she starts summer school. So If I want my garage back, I gotta finish em up. WWD!!!
I think she more smart them me cause she knows if I like park my truck, I gotta make room by putting all the stuff (most of em mine anyway) back in the closet neat and organized.
One thing good BL is that at least when you like, you run away and do other stuff. You not tied down because of all the games. We all need our own forms of recreation or we going crack.

I'm going on vacation! yahoooo! I leave tonight to Vegas then to SF and my wife, after SF will be traveling to Peru, while I come back home to work so I can pay for her trip to Peru.....I'm at work physically but not mentally...LOL...

Hey BL, I'm back!
And, I caught up on your last week of blogs. Still recovering from my surgery but glad to be back in the real world. Summer seems the same for me as the other seasons for now. Once my son gets older, I will look forward to all kinds of recreational fun and vacations. I guess I can say summer is when we can send him to his grandparents. Even though we had to do it for my surgery, it is a nice break. At least they seem to be having fun with him, and he gets to run around outside nekkid since they live in a nice big neighborhood. I look forward to having summers in Hawaii soon, if we can afford it!

ahhh summer. no make difference now that i'm not in school anymore. it's kinda sad knowing that i can't just sleep in till whenevers i like and then as soon as i wake up decide which beach to hit, or call up da friends...now everybody has the same routine (read:job) so getting together to go beach & bbq can't be random anymore, it's a planned event! but it's ok, that's what weekends are for right?
so who's bringing what? poke...beer...kimchee...haha
and islandgirl good to hear your surgery went well...take care and recover fast

Ah, summer. What can I say? I get to sleep in until 7am! Dinners are way later. I usually don't cook rice until 5-5:30pm, but the mental part of me follows the setting sun. Now that it sets later, the cooking routine gets later! Get choke more laundry. I don't know if the kids are changing more often or if I'm slacking off. Hmmm, probably slacking. Kids don't need uniforms or their "good" jeans or t-shirts, so no pressure to get the laundry done.
A/C's on a lot and for long time! Don't wanna see the bill. Hey,anybody know why HECO is paying back consumers at 10% per month? WWD? Wonder if I can pay my bill at 10%?
Summer's pretty much the same, except my brain goes on vacation, kids turn into eating machines and we all stay up way too late watching really bad tv movies.
June 30th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Well, like Ynaku, summer not much different from rest of the year. When we had all of our kids with us, summer was definitely a time for vacations, trips and other kids-out-of-school activities. I was coaching year-round back then and summer was usually tournament time and went mainland for a number of years. Summer in the mainland is HOT! Once played in Bakersfield, California...whoa, it was way over 100 sizzling hot.
welcome back, islandgirl in nc! Sounds like you doing nicely after your surgery.

Been in Vegas when it was only 90+ and dat sucked!
I'm your friend right?
Are you sure it's just da "heat"? Waaarm pool?
.
.
And everybody sing along... And da woman is...smartah. Da woman is...smartah....
You like tell dat to some of my other friends "women" please? Cause now, dey not only no can "play", dey on permanent lockdown! WWD?!
.
.
Wat I gotta do fo' get you to pay fo' my trip?....wait, no sound good...nevah mind!
btw, wen you stay in SF, if you ever see the "unicorn" of visors (all black visor w/ red 49er logo) can you pick dat up and I'll pay you back...I've been looking fo' dat sucka for many many years and wanted one from SF to say that's it's from SF. Mahalos!
.
.
Welcome Back! Glad to hear things went well...eh, and no hanky panky during recovery jus' cause da keiki away!
.
.
You tellin' me?!? Kinda sad but so true.
.
.
Yeah me too! Once I notice it's close to 7pm and there's still light I just say...."ahh, summer."
.
.
Year round? Whoa, hardcore yeah?
And yeah, mainland hot is sooo different from Hawaii hot...unless you in Kona in da dead heat of summer and no wind...now das killa's too!
June 30th, 2008 at 10:44 am
ah, summer... it's nice to have the longer days so we can enjoy a little more time outdoors (or, at least it doesn't seem like the day is already over if you work late!)! we're going on a short trip to the big island for golfing... four days straight! there will be three generations of my family checking out the big island courses! fun (and, hopefully, i play half decent!)!
m - hope you m&m's have a great time on your trip! oh, and win the megabucks, too, eh!
islandgirl - nice to have you back!! sounds like things went well and that's good to hear! take care and have a speedy recovery!
June 30th, 2008 at 10:44 am
I'm having a day like BL did on Friday. Oh well, just gotta look forward to vacation starting this Friday!
Love the longer days of Summer. Taking the kid's swimming, doing summer stuff. It seems more laid back this time of year.
June 30th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Summer signals LESS TRAFFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 30th, 2008 at 10:50 am
BL, I will look for that "unicon" visor for you. Not sure what it looks like.....
June 30th, 2008 at 10:57 am
I agree with Ocean Lover, summer means less traffic. Once you get out of school/college (whatever), there is no summer vacation for the average worker except for maybe a week at Disneyland with the kids (no thanks).
June 30th, 2008 at 11:02 am
Need a caddy? Give me a head start though...it'll take me awhile to swim there.
.
.
Sorry to hear dat CW....but really, my "luck" didn't turn around till Sunday afternoon....I hope yours only lasts a few hours.
.
.
Rogah Dat! Two times!
.
.
Oh, no worries! It's something I try and ask anyone who goes to SF to look out for because it's such a mysterious item even though it's a common item. It's a regular visor, black, and the 49er logo in da front. For some reason, every place but SF has the SF visor...go figuah?
.
.
You mean chasing kids around, throwing tantrums, standing in long lines in 90+ degree heat and buying $5 sodas and $10 hamburgers isn't fun?
June 30th, 2008 at 11:08 am
But we have dry heat here in AZ....just open your oven door when you're cooking...feels just like that.
Friends?? Who needs friends...just bring a six pack and you're OK.
You'd really have to ... umm...ummm...you know, to warm up a pool
June 30th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Thanks snow, I will tell "M" hello for you. If I win the megabucks, we will have a blog party....
In-n-Out burger, here I come.
June 30th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
for me i start to notice summer when i look at the clock and it says 7:02 pm and still get plenty light outside to play!! lol!! my birthday always reminds me that its summer time...not that it matters since we're workin' all year round! i always tell the nieces/nephews to enjoy this time and become a teacher cuz if not, no more summer break when you become an adult!! i LOVE the longer days, sun rises early and sets late...can do more stuff. so even if we got chores, we get little bit extra time to play too!! woohoo!
June 30th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
