Stimulate Me Baby!

July 29th, 2008

Queenie was having too much fun with her titles lately so I wanted to throw one out too! 😛

Recently Da Wife and I finally received our stimulus check (WWD!) - sucks having our ssn end in the upper stratosphere - and we were pleasantly surprised by the amount.

Who isn't? It's free money.

Truth be told, it came shortly after our 1st wedding anniversary date and at that time we were still deciding how to celebrate.

Take a neighbor island trip? Stay at Turtle Bay? Buy something?

"Free" money does a number on your senses. We hear it a lot: Save it! Pay off bills! Finally can buy your eye candy!

The funny thing is we've had this check - deposited of course - for a couple of weeks and we haven't decided what to with it. We've been very fortunate (disciplined) enough to have finally paid off our last "long term" debt and now looking forward to a longer term debt with a refinance we're trying to complete to finally buy a home.

The angel on our right side says to save it but the devilish fun side on the left says to spend it.

How did you spend your stimulus check? Did you even get one?

Did you receive the max? Said you was going to save it but nevah? Did you pay some bills? Ok, wat did you buy? Spill da beans!

So you one angel or one devil? C'mon, stimulate me!

I get friends who got their checks for stimulate whatevahs. I no moa nothing, haha. I would probably just save 'em, leave it in the bank like the Pake I am. Still, money is money. Gotta spend 'em sometime!

What check? Stimulate who? No Korean bars around here 🙂

Paid for part of my airfare to HNL in the fall....must keep Hawaiian Air solvent.

We got a letter saying that the check will be in the mail anytime after July 4, but it hasn't arrived yet. The letter said that if doesn't arrive in eight weeks to let them know.

Currently, we don't owe anything except monthly utilities & rent - a habit which comes from not holding any credit cards and driving old cars & taking the bus. That habit came after we were forced into bankruptcy over a decade ago and lost everything. The remaining bills from that debacle are still around since the debts were not discharged, but we are making a minor dent in them. Spouse calculates that somewhere around 2045 when we'll be coming up on our 90th birthdays, we'll be able to start saving for our old age.

Man, I'm late. Half day of frustrating social situations on the Leeward coast/homeless issues, cured by 27 holes of golf at Makaha East. Stimulus check, gone, poof, nada, CC bills, but now all paid off.

  5. KalopaMom:

ho, wish we got one of those checks.... pay enough in taxes, everybody should get something!

  6. Koauka:

Dude, gotta file on-line. Direct deposit by 3rd week of May. When I got the funds, went straight to Sam's Club. Bought me a HP Office jet printer for $150.00. Buggah is pretty good too. But da ink cartridge is about $30.00 for each black one.

I think the rest of my stimulus check gonna pay for ink.

I was so excited to pay off my credit card, or most of it at least. And then summer tuition was due and I had to put it on my credit card. Arrggh. The joys of getting an education. It helped me pay tuition, so it's okay.

    Gmanoa:

That's why you should have multiple display monitors...face the 'work' ones so anyone walking by will see your spreadsheet, word doc, email and face the 'play' one so they can't see what's being displayed until they stand directly next to you. 🙂

    We all do that here....
