Rudolph Da Red Nose......

By
December 22nd, 2008

Anybody feelin' da holiday pressure?

I thought I nevah have any - until this morning. As I was washing my face and about to brush my teeth I noticed it..... Rudolph.

C'mon. Everybody's had it before. Da BIG RED PIMPLE ON DA TIP OF YOUR NOSE SCREAMING 'LOOK AT ME!'

And right at Christmas too.....

WASSAP WIT DAT!

Great. 🙁 Now wen I talk to people today, I only going be thinking, "c'mon, look at it... I know you wanna look at it".

And then they stay thinking, "don't look at it. Don't look at it.... ok, just a peek."

Stress causes pimples right? 😉 Wat was I stressed out about? Hmmm.....

Maybe cause I nevah do da three foot two sink-fulls of dishes. Maybe cause I get CHOKE mail to go through. Maybe cause I gotta clean da house fo' da pah-tay. Maybe cause I gotta wash clothes, da car, da truck, da bike, da dogs.... oh yeah, gotta take bath too. 😳

Or maybe cause I wen invite da boys ovah dis past Saturday without asking Da Wife.....

BAM!  SOS!

Dang, dis marriage thing is tough. 😉

Sorry Babe... won't happen again... fo' both our sakes. 😀

Eh, who we kidding? 😉 Going happen again... but at least I going try remembah to ask first! 😆

Or maybe cause it's da 50 pounds of kim chee I gotta make. Or da wasabi potato salad I gotta make two times in two days.

Ai-goo. I need anoddah vacation.

Oh wait. I am going on anoddah one. 😯

But not really fo' us.

I won a four-pack of airfare (expires end of year) to Kauai last week so Da Wife and I are taking my parents to Kauai fo' an ovahnighter this Saturday.

My parents are really hard to shop for cause they are really simple people. They're not gadget or materialistic people so besides food, it's nearly impossible to shop for them. When I won da airfare da lightbulb went on and I asked Da Wife if we could take them with us since they've been on one vacation in da past 15 or so years. For them, it'll be an all expenses paid short kine vacation Christmas present from Da Wife and I.... well, more so fo' putting up with me. 😆

So we're heading to Kauai and besides Waimea Canyon I'm asking (again) fo' da WWD! posse's help. Wat can we do, see, try, in about two days there?

Anybody do da zip-lines there? Which one is da best cause there's a few out there? Where should we stay?

Wea should we check out to eat? 😀

We've been checking out some prices out there cause we haven't booked anything but the airfare and it sure seems like Kauai mustn't be hurting cause da prices are - gulp - quite high. Maybe we should have gone back to Vegas.

I feel anoddah pimple coming on........ 🙁

Numbah Seven Day Of Christmas

By
December 19th, 2008

You do know that this is the last weekend before Christmas which is seven days away including today right?

Being that it's Happy Feel Good Friday, I thought people might need a place to vent being that it may be stressful for some.... or maybe you just like share your holiday stories? 😀

Answer one, answer all - Lurkahs feel free to participate. 😉

So what have you, are you one of those "midnight hour" shoppers?  😯  It's not that helpful this year for last minute shoppers that Christmas falls midweek - or is it?

Have you gone to any of the craft fairs? I haven't been able to attend a single one.

Did you peek already and know what you're getting?

What was the one thing that you really wanted this Christmas - besides spending time with family and friends?

Are you getting what you wanted or did you "just make it happen"?

Are you an artificial or real tree person?

Did you decorate your home? Office? Both? Office but not home (WWD!)?

Have you seen either "City Lights"? Are you tired of the same "figures"?

Do you have any traditions? Broken already?

What's your favorite Christmas songs and by who? (btw, if you didn't know, KSSK plays Christmas songs 24/7 from Thanksgiving through Christams)

You think these are too much questions? 😆

SHOUT OUT #1: I wanted send out a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the newlyweds Lanakila and Shellie Niles! Braddah, you bettah take kea of Shell..... or else! 😉 😀

SHOUT OUT #2: Ok, I think I may be a little pupule on this one but I'll throw this out anyways.... fo' those who want a bottle (probably a 12 ouncer depending how much people ask cause if not too much, bottle going be biggah fo' those who want) of homemade kim chee, post a comment saying so (Lurkahs, yeah, dat means you gotta post too).

Da only catches?

  • Numbah one day of Christmas - You gotta pick 'em up on Wednesday December 24 at The Honolulu Advertiser by 12:00pm.
  • Numbah two day of Christmas - If you like me drop 'em off, going be on Christmas morning in Pearl City somewhere (email me aftah you post you like 'em fo' location)
  • Numbah tree day of Christmas - No feel hobo asking fo' free kimchee.
  • Numbah four day of Christmas - Kimchee is free, no need nothing in return.
  • Numbah five day of Christmas - Please donate a toy or can good to any place receiving them (honor system).
  • Numbah six day of Christamas - If not, pay it forward by doing something good for someone in need without asking - friends and family count.
  • Numbah seven day of Christmas - Post on WWD! mo' often. 😉 😀 😳

Day 3 - Six Flags

By
December 17th, 2008

So driving around and exploring LA's counties all day and night, 15 hours of Disneyland and now....... 8 hours (open to close) of Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA!

And we're supposed to be on vacation. 😆

Nothing much to report but FUN! Here are a few pics for those who haven't been there and there's video too! Yup, you heard me right..... VIDEO!

Although I still have to upload it to YouTube... and I dunno how.  😳 Sad yeah?

Well aftah I figgah it out, I'll be posting da video of da rides.... yeah you read right again - DA RIDES!

Not supposed to but fo' those who know me, I always chance 'um! And no, I nevah lose da camera.... but I did loose my Oakley's.... and of course in true WWD! fashion.... on da last ride!   😡 😡 😡

Besides paying $9 for a slice of cafeteria style pizza and fall apart cheesesticks (if anybody works for Papa John's, you bettah check out Six Flags cause they using your name but wat they serving is NOT Papa John's), Six Flags is da bomb! Well, if you're into da FUN rides and not da simple, old school, few loops and turns kine but da kine dat flip you wat so evah, spin you, throw your opu into your throat, slam your head around the backrest and still wanting more kine.  😀

Here's da pics - with commentary of course..... and I'll try and get da video's (short kine) out as soon as I can. 😉

Photobucket

Can't miss da HUGE sign.........

Photobucket

There was a cheerleading competition (we didn't know) so it was going to be busier than normal. 😮

Photobucket

Our very first ride of da day... X2. By far da BEST ride of da park! You see the people waiting in line? From dat point it's about an 1 hour and 15 mins wait. Dat's why we rushed dis ride first as soon as we got in and nevah even have to stand in line.... suckahs! 😀 😆

Photobucket

A hugemongeous tree in da middle of nowhere.... nah, it's da entrance to da kiddie rides - Bugs Bunny land or something li'dat.

Photobucket

Standing in front of Goliath. Dis is one of da best "drops" considering it's just a regular roller coaster (held down with a lap bar). You drop down for a VERY long time and towards the end you spiral in a negative G-turn..... FUN.

Photobucket

Wen dis ride first came out it was supah fun, now it's "ok" - still fun because there's "no floor" beneath your feet.

Photobucket

Batman and The Riddler rides, shows and characters abound here.

Photobucket

Green Lantern flashing a shaka (but no can see 'em). It took about 10 seconds to get his hands to do it... he kept doing da Texas Longhorns Hook 'em sign. 😆

Photobucket

Fake Batman, Robin and Wonder Woman. Robin got da shaka.... believe it or not, Wonder Woman REFUSED to flash a shaka. Wat a.........  I guess I would be too if I had to walk around li'dat all day. 😆

Photobucket

Believe it or not too, Six Flags had WAAAAY more characters in the park than Disneyland. I only saw Buzz and Goofy in Disneyland. There was also the Rooster, Skunk (fo'got his name) and a couple oddahs dat da line was too long to take a pic with at Six Flags.

Photobucket

Riddler's Revenge.... a "stand-up" ride.

Photobucket

Was a little disappointed Deja Vu was closed... it's da only roller coaster in da park dat goes foward....... then backwards!

Photobucket

Da picture of da food wasn't even worth da memory on da camera. 🙁

Photobucket

Who would want to drive all the way to Six Flags to play Wii instead of riding rides? Believe it or not, there was a line to play... sad.

Photobucket

They have their own candy store and on da table was peanut brittle?

Photobucket

Hand picked...... btw, wea's his gloves? 😯

Photobucket

The prizes were almost FIVE FEET tall! Even if you win 'em... wea you going put 'em?

Photobucket

We've been hearing da Superman Ride ALL day (da buggah is frickin' loud).... and of course wen we hike up da LONG a$$ hill.... da buggah BROKE!  WASSAP WIT DAT!

Photobucket

Tatsuo.

It's a "lie down" roller coaster! It gives X2 hard rubs and because my cousin got us "fast pass" tickets we rode this three times! An absolute must ride!

Photobucket

Tired and hungry wea else did we go but to eat at Johnnies again but dis time... dine-in.

Photobucket

Jukebox right on da counter... reminds of "Happy Days".

Photobucket

MLC'ers recognize any of da titles?  😆

Photobucket

Pickles given like bread in a restaurant.

Photobucket

You guys already seen how thick da meet is.... look, no even stay inside da bread!

Photobucket

I had da patty melt with mac salad.... it was "mainland" mac salad. 😮

Photobucket

I think my only disappointment was not being able to eat at Tito's Tacos. No mattah wat time of day we drove by, da line was out to da street so you know it must good. Next time.

Day 2 - Allll Day Baby!

By
December 15th, 2008

Hey hey hey! Howzit!

Sorry for not posting in a long while but when you hear wat happened - in a later post of course - you'll understand why.

Day 2 was a full day of da "Happiest Place on Earth"..... DISNEYLAND!

Did we make da full 16 hours open to close (8am - 12am)? Well, let me share 'dis first cause our plans got turned upside down from da first day.

Before we left, I had arranged - through craigslist - to meet a guy selling 2 2-day Disneyland hopper tickets. After several emails and negotiations later, I had gotten it basically to a two for one deal plus a box of chocolate mac nuts and he would meet us at our hotel. Score yeah?

Our plan was to go to Disneyland and California during the two days (figgah less busy) and do other stuff at night.

Well da night we left I checked my email and noticed that he said he would meet us at 9am instead of our originally scheduled time of 7:30am - no problem....... till.........

9:30am came and gone...... 10:00am came and gone........ 11:00am came and gone.

Hoi, wea da buggah stay? He no call, he no email or text......

Wassap Wit Dat!

I tell Da Wife good thing we had a shmall kine backup plan in case da buggah was a flake and das why we jus' decided to do all da town stuff da first day and 'den gung-ho Disneyland all day and night da next - there it is, da reason why we were at Disneyland fo' so long.

So two Friday's ago, our plan was to wake up early, catch da first shuttle (hotel provided free transportation saving us $15 parking), have breakfast at Catal (Downtown Disney), get to da park right wen it opens and run amock. 😀

And of course in true WWD! fashion..... we woke up late, missed da first, almost missed da second bus, nevah have breakfast but a bagel and tea from Starbucks and got to da park about 20 mins late. 😆

But you know wat? It was au' good!

Disneyland's holiday setup was nice and not overdone. The people there of course were half half - some rude, some nice, some need a kick in da okole. 😀

Oh yeah, choke kids.... CHOKE strollers. I nevah seen so much strollers in my life before and we even seen a four seater! Not da kine two by two. It was like one long bobsled and da buggah was hugemangeously long!

Needless to say, we rode all da "good rides" in the day - most of 'em twice - and didn't have to wait long for any rides. I would say our longest wait was about ten minutes with da exception of Haunted Mansion Holiday which was about 17 minutes. We only used the fast pass once and was disappointed dat Big Thunder Mountain was closed.

Hold up. I take dat back. Our longest wait time for a ride was 45 minutes....... on Peter Pan!

Wassap Wit Dat!

Da Wife wanted to ride dat and I've nevah rode any "kiddie" rides evah in Disneyland but she wanted to ride so we waited.... and waited.... while da parents in front of us let their keiki run back in forth in da line, da kid in front of us grabbing anything and everything and anoddah crying for watevah reason.

It was au' good but I really wondah why you would bring any keiki under da age of 10 to Disneyland cause most not going even remembah. And believe me, if my keiki evah ack li'dat, boy would he/she get lickins' fo' surah. 😀

And you know Hawaii people, can spock 'em out anywhere especially if you hear 'em talk. There was a Hawaii couple right behind us and Uncle was from Kahaluu and 'den Aunty's nephew went same school as me at Moanalua - I swear, 'dis aina too small.... even on da oddah rock!

Weather was fantastic! Smog cleared, air was crisp although it was a little hotter than I liked and I took a ton of pics - ovah 500+! A lot were duds as I was trying to figgah out how to use my new camera because being da lo-lo dat I am, left da manual at home!

(See told you I fo'got something!)

Some rides were "updated" in scenery but fo' da most part, Disneyland is da same.

We had $20 chowder bowls - no drinks, $5.50 popcorn but at least we got a "souvenier bucket". We did sneak in bottled water so dat saved us about $10. 😯 😳

There were lots of "kids" performaning from various schools throughout the day at the bandstand and if it wasn't for them and their supporters, I would say Disneyland would have been quite empty.

So did we make da full 16 hours? Sadly, no.........

We only lasted 15. 😀 🙄

CLICK HERE TO SEE ALL DISNEYLAND PICS

You can change the number of seconds to view before it switches or pause or just click through. You can also just "cancel" and the album will show and you can pick which photos you like see too cause get choke... and dat's da "condensed" album. 😆

*** I'm trying to post some pictures in the blog but it's not allowing me to. 😡   I'll try later on and hopefully the link above works.

Day 1 - Finally Pau:

By
December 8th, 2008

For those who noticed the time stamps, yeah, my body clock stay all messed up. Posting real late - or real early depending how you looking at it - is taking it's toll but das wat medication and Airborne is for right? 😀

Fo' those who saw da last blog pics, no be dat scared. Sure some of da areas "iffy" but da oddah cities, countys, towns or watevahs you call 'em stay fine... let's jus' say dat once you get ovah da way it "looks", it's ok. Although certain areas you'd just use common sense and drive through, the pics posted were jus' general and random pics.

I apologize to all da Californians, Los Angelians (is dat right?) if da pics depicted a "not so nice" view but I think fo' those kama'aina dat nevah leave da rock or "venture" out don't know how da rest of da "non-tourist" areas look like. Plus we stay spoiled in Hawaii wea most everything "looks nice" already no? 😀

Comparing da two, the architecture and atmosphere is entirely different and I think dat's why there's such a different "view" of the areas. Fo' those who know da mainland and Hawaii alike can attest to dat, right?

Without further ado, here's da rest of day 1. Yup, you read right - da rest of Day 1. We jammed a lot of stuff into one day (as we usually do) and wrapping up Day 1 is Hollywood. And since a few cause you guys stay bugging about food (was originally going to post all da food in a single blog), hea's a lunch place we ate in K-Town and one oddah awesome place we stopped by - mahalos to da posters who suggested it - so you bettah read on to find out wea was. 😉

Photobucket

So there we were..... Hollywood.

Photobucket

One of da first theaters in Hollywood and still running strong.

Photobucket

Breaking news always available in da scrolling ticker on da second floor.... you think they have an opening fo' a blogger wit no grammer skills wat so evah? 😆

Photobucket

Wat happened to da "Tea Leaf"?

Photobucket

Kinda funny yeah get dis place jus' on da edge of Hollywood - you would tink some of da high makamaka actors/actress' could use 'em no?

Photobucket

I dunno if dis guy hired his own film crew or not but he was a Matthew Lesko look-a-like acting like David Blane.

Photobucket

Standing front and center of Grauman's Chinese Theater... home of da "stars".

I tried to take some of da more notable "stars" but couldn't resist taking some old school icons too - check out da dates - ... jus' fo da MLC bunch who read WWD!. 😀 😆

I guess da concrete "signature" is saved fo' da mo' big peeps in Hollywood cause besides da notable "stars", they just about give it to anybody.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Da side entrance of Kodak Theater to a bounty of shops.

Photobucket

Inside da shopping center of Kodak Theater.

Photobucket

Seems every place has one of these "water shows".

btw, the third floor walkway you see in the background is one of da best viewing places to see da "sign" ........

Photobucket

Remembah I told you guys da first da we had choke vog, well da smog was in full effect. If wasn't fo' my telephoto lens and filter, wouldn't have been able to see da sign.

Photobucket

Can you see da sign in da far left? Neither did we wit da naked eye.

Photobucket

Eh, get your mind out of da gutter you ODDah readers.... it's not DAT kine store!

Photobucket

Before we hit up Hollywood though, we had lunch at a food court in Koreatown Plaza. Where did we know where to go?

Follow da crowd.... and order wat they order.

Photobucket

Known fo' their bim-bim-bap. Literally translated: mix (bim-bim) rice (bap). So anytime you see menu items with "bim-bim", it means you'll be mixing something.

Photobucket

It even came in a steaming stone pot and the flavors were "authentic" - I guess bettah be eh? 😀

Photobucket

A closer look.

Photobucket

"Mixed rice"

Of course aftah cruising around Hollywood, we was hungry and drove to...........

Photobucket

No, not hea. But I thought it was pretty funny to have a "temple" in one business building.

Photobucket

No, not hea either... but I guess they no sell taro pie eh? 😆

Photobucket

Das right! Johnnies! Cheee-hooo!

Photobucket

Dine in or dine semi-out in a patio setting.

Photobucket

Cozy little fire pit to keep patrons warm.

Photobucket

Cozy little dining area and da staff are very "methodical". They all knew wat they're doing and getting your order quick.

Photobucket

Mini jukebox on every table and counter top... and still takes quarters!

Photobucket

We had to get ours to go.

Photobucket

Each order comes with pickles and peppers.

Photobucket

Absolutely the best fries I've evah had and I'm a fry freak! It was crunchy yet soft and definetly not dry on da inside. I dunno how they did it but da oil and da temperature they cook it in is perfect!

Photobucket

I had da chili cheeseburger.

Photobucket

Da Wife had da infamous au jus pastrami.

Photobucket

Da burgah was hugemangeously thick and da chili... well, it wasn't Zippy's. Da burgah could have been seasoned more and da bread was soft and matched da burgah.

Photobucket

No, we nevah order double meat.... das how Johnnies rolls! Da buggah was HUGE! Very soft and flavorful meat and da french bread was just as soft - almost melt in your hands kine. Absolutely da best I've evah had so you know dat gets.....

 Das right! 5 Shaka's and a Howzit!

Day 1 finally pau.... stay tuned fo' Day 2 at......

DISNEYLAND! 😀

May take awhile cause get choke kine pictures so be patient eh.

k-den!
