Would You Rather........

By
April 21st, 2009

Here's a few dat just popped into my mind recently.......

Would you rather..... drive a car or a truck/suv?

Would you rather..... live without music or without tv?

Would you rather..... get lickins' or have your favorite thing taken away?

Would you rather..... always lose or never play?

Would you rather..... get first dibs or last laugh?

Would you rather..... get even or get over it?

Would you rather..... skip your birthday or the holidays?

And da bonus question.......

Would you rather..... become uglier or stupider?

As always, feel free to post your own "Would You Rather's" and Da WWD! Hui will try and answer 'em! Da only catch? One per post if you're asking your own.  (Sorry hemajang, 2B & Coconut Willy - updated after you guys started jamming away)

*BL tryin' fo' pad his comments*   😉

Man Way

Dunno what the heck got into Da Wife this past week but I think she puts some guys to shame. 😯

When we had moved into her grandmother's house over a year ago, we knew what we were getting into. The house is older, lots of outdated fixtures and being the modern world we live in had (wanted) to change a lot of things.

I changed the kitchen faucet when we first moved in, replaced the toilet "mechanisms" (flush valve, float, plunger, pipe) - and believe me, that's one job I care not to do often especially on older toilets! I've also painted rooms - both by hand and sprayer - and installed laminate flooring as well as locks and whatever needs "fixing".

Recently, Da Wife wanted to replace a couple of the ceiling fixtures after finding some buried boxes in our "storage room". Our hallway fixtures just had capped wires sticking out prior to us moving in because of a leaking roof problem and thus the older fixtures were removed.

We actually bought the replacements quite some time ago but never installed them...... until now.

I've installed lighting fixtures before, even ceiling fans, so I "knew" what to do but Da Wife was all gung-ho about putting the fixtures in herself and began to open the boxes.

BL:             "Wat'cha doin' Babe?"
Da Wife:         "Something we supposed to have done a long time ago."
BL:             "You want to install the fixtures now?" (almost night time already)
Da Wife:         "Yes!"
BL:             "Ok. Can you wait a few minutes while I finish up?" (playing da 4th quarter of da Super Bowl in Madden on my PS3)
Da Wife:         "Yeah."   (still unpacking the box)
BL:             "Babe, I said I'll do it. I don't want you to get electrocuted. It's ok if I do, but not you."
Da Wife:         "You got a point there."

See what a man does for his woman? Willing to get electrocuted without hesitation. 😆

Shortly after winning the NINTH Super Bowl for da 49ers, I started uncapping the wires and grabbed the fixture,

Da Wife:     (as she pulls out the directions)  "I have to turn off the power."
BL:                      "No need."
Da Wife:     "But you're supposed to."
BL:                      "Babe, I've installed lighting fixtures before. I KNOW  wat I'm doing."  🙄
Da Wife:     "Wait! I'll turn off the electricity."
BL:                      "As long as I don't touch both wires (positive/negative) together at the same time, I'll be fine."  (I think)
Da Wife:     (walks away and turns off the electricity)

Now there I am in the dark, trying to install a lighting fixture..... see da irony? 😆

Da Wife:      "That wire doesn't go there."
BL:                         "Babe, it's the ground wire. As long as it's not touching the positive or the negative, it's fine. It just needs to touch a separate metal section to "ground" it."
Da Wife:      "Did you connect the positive and negative? The instruction says......."
BL:                          "Babe! I KNOW wat I'm doing. I grounded da wire, and look! Black wire on black wire. White wire on white wire. SIMPLE!"
Da Wife:      "Don't talk to me like that! I'm reading the instructions!"
BL:                           (GRRRRRRRRR..... attaching da fixture base)  "It's not fitting."
Da Wife:       "That screw is supposed to go in the other hole."
BL:                           "Which hole?"
Da Wife:      "Look at the INSTRUCTIONS."

Ok, she won that one...... but I still knew how to connect da lights!

Then Saturday, she wanted to recaulk the tub.... only I didn't know about it.

Wassap Wit Dat!

After coming home from a clinic, I noticed a whole bunch of crap in the tub. I'll admit, our tub was kind of nasty because of the older caulk and that is one project we should have done from the word go and now because of Da Wife starting on it, we had to finish it so we could shower!

She had some of the caulk chipped away but needed a "man" to do da rest. She did a great job in scrubing da tub and da walls (leaving no "ugly" stuff) and let's just say da old caulk is off, it was a huge pain and I really don't care to do that again anytime in da next 10 years! Now we have a freshly caulked, clean and tidy tub!

Oh yeah, did I mention I changed da shower head pipe, shower head and faucet too while I was at it..... and I did it da MAN WAY too - no instructionés! 😀

Asartaphame

By
April 16th, 2009

Last Saturday we had our dreaded "Field Day".

We didn't have one last year since the field held up from our last Field Day two years ago but this year, the field was especially bad with huge "sinkholes" and rough dirt so it called for one.

After the morning practice, I had some pizzas delivered and drinks on ice in the cooler - various Capri-Sun (less sugar brand for the players) and diet Pepsi Vanilla for me (watching my figure).  😆

Pop! Fizzzzzzz...... slurp..... aaaahhhhhh!

Nothing like a cold one - even though, uh, it's not da "true" beverage of choice - but very refreshing nonetheless after being a long practice.

PLAYER:   "Coach."
BL:                "Yes sir."
PLAYER:   "You shouldn't be drinking that."
BL:                "Yeah, I know. Soda is bad for you."
PLAYER:   "No, you shouldn't be drinking diet."
BL:                "Huh? Why not?"
PLAYER:   "Because it has asartaphame."
BL:                "It has as-a-wat?"
PLAYER:   "Astarphapamine?"
BL:                "You mean aspartame?"
PLAYER:   "Yeah, yeah! That one."
BL:                "It's waaaay better than drinking Capri-Sun which is full of sugar."
PLAYER:   "But our teacher said not to drink anything with aspar-thingy."
BL:                "Your teacher told you that? Then what should you be drinking."
PLAYER:   "JUICE and REGULAR SODA!!!"

🙄

So let me get this straight, our keiki are being told to drink sugar-laden drinks over a FDA approved sugar-substitute?

Wassap Wit Dat!

Have they (the teacher[s]) not seen the obesity rate steadily climb and from an early age now? Surly they must see it first hand being they deal with keiki daily and now they are "teaching" keiki to eat/drink sugar instead?

The players did say that they were told aspartame causes cancer which I think is great to make them aware but don't tell them that they should be drinking sugar based stuff instead!

Now that made me curious and being da Google guru dat I am, had to look it up. According to Wikipedia, the initial approval by the FDA was back in 1974 and as recent as 2007 a "safety evaluation found that the weight of existing scientific evidence indicates that aspartame is safe at current levels of consumption as a non-nutritive sweetener."

Aspartame, as anything else in this world, is a subject of controversy but if we can't trust those who "approved" it, who can we trust? Aren't there stringent tests and follow ups and more tests done before it's ok'd?

Did you know that over 90 countries worldwide approve and use aspartame daily?

I think it's safe to drink diet soda. 😛

But like anything else, in moderation. I can see the danger if you're drinking a case a day and cooking, baking or using aspartame in everyday foods but a "normal" person's consumption of aspartame can't be that much anyways.... right? And common sense would tell you that those who are pounding aspartame are the ones at risk of health concerns and not the ones who consume it moderately.

Well, I guess our whole day wasn't healthy anyways with pepperoni, extra cheese pizza and Capri-Sun.

Did I mention our late afternoon snack of double cheeseburgers and Aloha Maid juice as well? 🙄

Oh, we had water too. 😀

SHOUT OUT:   A hugemangeous Mahalos goes out to Shawn Chang (old friend from Intermediate days) for allowing us to borrow his tiller! Without it, we wouldn't have been able to "fix" the field and now the field looks great.... and much safer! I should have taken before and after pics but my paparazzi mode wasn't on.

Also a hugemangeous Mahalos to a closet Kwonic, Makiki, for offering to rent one! He didn't have a tiller but wanted to rent one for us to use anyways! Wat ALOHA yeah?  Cheee-hooo!

*Fist bump*

Anybody up for golf? Da Triad Golf Get Together will be Saturday Apr.25 at Hawaii Prince in the afternoon looking around 1ish (specific start time to be confirmed later). We was able to get a great deal on the green fees so if you're in, let me know asap via post or email... or both!

So far we already got 4 (including me) on Team WWD! - not too sure how Team MLC and Team O&E are doing just yet.

And yes of course, you're welcome to come to da pah-tay afterwards even if you no come golf.

Hit Or Miss

By
April 14th, 2009

So wat is it that gets you guys to post?

I know it's 50/50 everytime a blog is put up since every topic may or may not be interesting enough but there are always Da Kwonics who read and post daily.... even if it may be a boring topic or something they don't know anything about. 😀

Lanceformers are frequent readers who are always on da fence about posting. We see their screen names once in awhile and they read often enough. As far as posting? If/when da topic hits a nerve or there's really something they have to chime in on, they appear. 😉

Lurkahs..... hmmm. Das wat they do. Lurk. 😆 But you know wat? Das auuuuu' right with me! 😀 At least they read and while they may not post, I'd like to think they "want" to say something but why they no like be "heard", beats me.

Maybe they no mo' keyboard.... only get mouse. 😉 Jus' joke.

I gotta give props though to those handful of Lurkahs who ventured out of Lurkah O' Ka Aina dis past year and "transformed" to Lanceformers! 😛

Does anybody read da blogs at home? Are you one to read everybody's comments or just da mo'olelo? Are you interested in wat oddah's have to say? Do you like daily posts or every oddah day kine?

Uncle Rodney of Mid-Life Crisis posts every oddah day so his readers get chance for read and reply. His blog comments roll along as those who read 'em later get a chance to reply.

But da blogs itself, I know maybe no mo' time for reply and I know MOST of you buggahs stay at work.... but on break right? 😉 But das why I try and post daily though cause it seems like da comments left on WWD! is during, uh, break times. 😎

Topics are hard to come by at times cause I not one writer by trade and I know da mo'olelo's on WWD! going hit or miss but I just happy you guys (anybody) reads 'em. I definetly know dat I know can't please everyone... but I stay tryin'! 😀

And if you guys nevah figgah out by now, I reply to EVERYONE  - late sometimes but I still do! (Maybe das why da Lurkahs no like post?) Well except for those who reply like a week later..... but I still read 'em nonetheless! Comments keep da blog alive and my goal is to get da comments hitting triple digits consistently on WWD! - a milestone I hope to achieve..... someday in a galaxy far far away.

I hope you guys all feel like you guys can post hea' without fear of getting "slammed" and believe me, we've had some pretty "constructive" comments. (Maybe DAS why da Lurkahs no like post?) 😉

No mattahs. As long as we malama each oddah, we au' good here! Right?

So pass da word around, Wassap Wit Dat! is alive and kickin'....... wen da topics hit. 😉 😆

SHOUT OUT: Shauna (Odds & Ends Blogger) is trying to put together a "challenge" of sorts. anklebiters, a regulah on da Triad blogs, is coming down from AZ next week and since there seems to be a few golfers on each of our blogs, Shauna is trying to arrange a Triad golf outing - Battle of Da Triads!

No prizes (no can afford) but bragging rights are in full effect! We have no course picked out yet (anybody like help or get hookups?) and we're looking at Saturday Apr. 25th in the afternoonish. Shmall kine pah-tay aftah (location to be determined..... anybody like help or get hookups?) 😀

And yes, I'm looking for a WWD! team! You bettah be good cause I not. 😆

And no worries, dis is open to EVERYBODY but we need a solid head count to get things rolling.

Let me know via post or email if you down to give a beat down.... or like we say, you bettah at least look good if you can't golf good..... I'll be wearing a very nice polo shirt. 😆
