Euphoric
By Braddah Lance
Being in the middle of the Pacific Ocean surrounded by water, you can't help but visit the beach at least once in your life.
For as long as I can remember, I've always been in the water whether it be at picnics, surfing, diving, watevahs - just as long as there was sand and surf, I was good. It didn't hurt that wen I used to live in Sand Island, I literally could just hop our fence and be at the beach.
With the recent South swells, as NKHEA keeps reminding me, da Pacific comes a calling.
Da past few weeks I hit da surf wenevah I could during lunch - my only free time to surf - but yesterday was almost fate-like. Da Wife had planned to have a pau hana get together with a few of her ex-coworkers after work so I was left in a predicament. Do I go all the way home, take care the dogs, rest for a hour and drive back or do I stay at work and work on some things.
Hmmm........ Neither.
I wen surf Baby!
Boy was it epic!
It wasn't as big as last weekends swell but a solid three feet (Hawaiian scale of course). It was a bit inconsistent at Point Panic but knowing wea to sit in the lineup was key so I had more than my share of fun waves. I was in da water for a little ovah 2 ½ hours till da only light we saw was the moonlight and it was the most time I've evah spent surfing since high school wea I'd surf on average 10 hours a day.
Barrel aftah barrel I was so stoked to not only be in da watah for dat long but da fact dat I was in da right part of da lineup wea da "hui" was going on da first sets and once they were gone I was still fortunate enough to catch da last one in da set. Almost every wave was pitching nicely due to da light winds and low tide.
My last wave was unreal.
It was one of the bigger waves of the day and all I could see was a huge wall lining up. I pulled in high and tight and whooosh! A picture perfect wave barrelling from beginning to end and I threw in a few spinners (body surfing rolo move) and not only made it out but rode it all the way in wea I didn't even have to paddle in to get back on shore.
It was euphoric... and Da Wife can attest cause wen I went to pick her up, all she saw was a huge grin ear to ear even aftah I was out of da water.
No wait.
I was grinning ear to ear cause I took one look at my beautiful wife and couldn't help myself.
We may have talked about it before but yesterday was just so enlightening dat it refreshes my soul.
So wat is it dat you do, want to do, have done dat makes you "euphoric"? Eating chocolate? Playing cards? Hitting golf balls?
C'mon, share yours.... or you like keep 'em to yourself?
.

Wassup Wit Dat!

WooHaa! South Shore time! Cool BL, do yur thang...the wife and the rest of the world can wait til you get some killa sets haha I'm jealous (because I stay NYC), but I'll be back in a few months, and get mine! Yup - getting some 808 surf is pretty euphoric...
Right now, for me specifically, recently reuniting with an old (hot) friend and us falling in love with each other almost immediately (happened this month), to me, THAT's euphoria!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:14 am
Good morning BL!
Spending the weekend at my friends beach house does it fo me!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:27 am
Chee Whoo!!!!
Ho brah, great choice. Beautiful Surf AND wife. what could be better than that?
Euphoric???? Was so busy, dunno what makes me all gaga li'dat. Kicking back at da beach or park at da beach is cool. Grillin' and chillin' with my buddies is righteous. But riding my harley gives me that rush. Right now, being with my G'baby is euphoric.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:32 am
a good night's sleep is euphoric.
about the ocean...people find it weird that i tell them i feel claustrophobic on the mainland. i gotta see ocean or i go nuts!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:35 am
i don't think i have done anything to get a natural high...i mean, i got laughing gas when i had my wisdom teeth pulled, but that's about it!
i've never surfed a day in my life...but i do like going to the beach
i guess you can say i'm still searching for eurphoria...
June 30th, 2009 at 8:40 am

BL,
Catching good cards on table games in Vegas takes me back to our trip to Atlantic City a few years ago. All the cards turned to "gold" for me. I won enough money to pay for the two first class round trip airline tickets, hotel, car, meals and gifts plus put money back into the bank. I've longed for a streak like that again but so far its only in my dreams !
June 30th, 2009 at 8:56 am
Sounds weird, but sometimes when my family's in the car, and a good song comes on the radio and we all sing along, that's euphoria.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:00 am
With friends, kicking at the beach. The hibachi going with all kind meat and vegies. Cool beverages (no bea cuz dats illegal on da beach, uh huh yep) Tradewinds blowing.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:18 am
Catching a nice wave on my longboard is euphoric, hitting a 300 yard drive is euphoric, but seeing my 4 month old smile is the best. Yesterday he was cranky all day for my wife and when I came in the door he saw me and smiled the biggest smile of his life. My wife said it was the first time he's smiled all day. It's an amazing feeling.

I'd have to say camping with friends and family. Doesn't matter if it's at the beach, the mountains or the forest just the time spent bonding with each other.... those are memories that will last a lifetime!
June 30th, 2009 at 9:37 am

June 30th, 2009 at 9:45 am

@Rodney -- "six?"
June 30th, 2009 at 9:53 am
I used to catch my high playing paintball. The adrenaline rush was unreal.
Running up the sideline, swing around a bunker and firing a couple shots into someone's back when they never heard you run up on them is so sweet.
It sucks when it happens to you though.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Going into the ahi pile.....getting a double....and all the other boats "sucking fingah".

BL-
My feeling of Euphoria comes when I'm aboard the ship, and the sun is just about to pauhana. I even wrote a poem about it...
Remember those who pass
through these hallowed grounds
where surf and tide are the only sounds,
aboard this ship I proudly stand
caressed by the power of this lady, grand
USS MISSOURI is her name
3 wars, victorious is her fame.
As I gaze out along the ocean
I pause to remember, and fill with emotion
and as the sun begins to set beyond the sea
I realize, there is no place that I'd rather be
Than amongst this ship, of steel and wood
almost 70 years of history waiting to be understood
As I depart I hear the waves, the ones that never cease,
and all at once, I know that I have found.
Peace.
This is my euphoria.

Opso - you know me too well. Da Sandbox!
(okay, maybee not playing wit da girls)
MLC Moment - sitting on the edge of the sandbox, grabbing a fist full of sand and letting is slowly run out of my hand. Recalling the days that I used to play in the sandy playground at Kailua Drive In during intermission. Or the sand under the swings at Kainalu Elementary school. Or trying to get the fine sand from shorebreak out of our hair and ears after a whole day of surfing.
Small keed time - just as opso said. - Euphoric
Jaydee was close too with Sax
Listening to John Klemmer or Mindy Abair playing the sax. - Euphoric

I love being at my friends beach house, surfing, diving, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, enjoying the sun and the ocean breeze, watching the turtles, sunsets and sunrise, eating, relaxing with family and friends for the whole weekend. All my stress seems to just disappear.
June 30th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Dancing hula to a beautiful Hawaiian song. That puts me in my happy place and I feel good from the inside out.
June 30th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
BL...........you said "So wat is it dat you do, want to do, have done dat makes you "euphoric"?
I can trade you one new pen for a bottle of your kim chee.
OL
June 30th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Dropping in on a wave is one of the most 'euphoric' things I can think of.
But, like <bScott, it's an awesome feeling when I'm sitting in my living room doing something(eating, watching tv, etc) and my son walks all the way across the room and randomly gives me a huge hug and says "da da". Awwwww............ THAT is my euphoria now.
June 30th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Largo - i see eeeevryteeng! muahahaha!!
well......if i can remembah what i see.
June 30th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
I'm not much of a water person since my swimming sucks! But my friend took me to Lanikai Beach to boogie board. I managed to catch a few waves but took a pounding on a couple as well.
Anyway, for one moment every thing went right and I caught the perfect wave. I "felt" like I was on top of a 10 foot wave and rode it all the way to shore. I've good back many times since but I've never ever had that same euphoric moment like that day...
June 30th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
.........
.........
So wat? Wen da beea comes..... do you yell "First!"?
........
........
Rogah dat!
........
........
I was wondering who was going buss' dat out.
........
........
Whoa. Pretty deep. Mahalos for dat!
In fact I was telling Da Wife not too long ago dat I wanted to go visit the USS MIssouri and check it out since I've nevah been. I only been to da Memorial before the USS Missouri returned home.
Will make surah to post about it for surah though!
.........
.........
Yeah, no can replicate dat.
........
........
.......
.......
Tomorrow supposed to be biggah!
........
........
Lucky buggah.
.........
.........
I've always enjoyed watching.
..........
..........
Heh? One pen? My name not Russell.
.........
.........
........
........
One thing at a time..... you like remembah or you like see?
........
........
It'll come wen you least expect it...... jus' make surah you not knocked out if you get pounded..... feels da same but not da same.

I think Rodney's an 80's rock fan, so I'm going with "Styx"
for me,it's gotta be on the water. cast, retrieve, cast retrieve...get into a rhythm and no matter that no strikes are coming. if one does...bonus.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:06 am
euphoria for me, sunset fishing. cast out couple of poles, sit back and relax. then just as the sun hits the water- double hookup, the action fast for half hour, couple of fish in the cooler-all is good.
