WAT DA *BLEEP*!

August 27th, 2009
By

Sleeping and walking to da bathroom bumping into walls, corners, doors and closet doors dis morning should have been da first sign.

Or maybe da pen mark left on my leg from doing da Sudoku on da throne.

Or maybe actually dozing on da throne should have been da alert of all alerts.

Definitely should have been da traffic.

Or maybe dis.............

Ordinary picture right?

So I thought too as I scooted past da employee back rack heading into work. As I got to my desk it hit me! Something's missing. (No, I didn't forget to put pants on)  I rush outside with camera phone in hand..........

WAT DA *FRICK*!  (insert colorful adjective hea) Someone stole my bike?!? AGAIN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

And it was premeditated too cause da lock was cut clean with a bolt cutter.

I check with security to see if they saw anything last night. Nada. Checked with Maintenance to see if they had to move it for some reason. Nope. Anoddah lost cause.

Geez, wat a great way to start a morning.

I use dat bike for everything during lunch and aftah work at times too! I used it to run errands to da store, cruise around, take it to da park but most especially I used it to go surf during my one and only break of da day from work!

It was my "ride".

We have an employee bike rack which is tucked away on property which I thought was pretty safe and barely visable from public view but who knows who walks through da property at night. Hea's da kicker - Dis is da second bike of mine stolen in less than three years..... at da same place!

Now my lunch time surfing just got cut as I can't make it there in time even if I ran there and right now, even though da surf small, I needed to get out there!

Wassap Wit Dat!

Anybody got anythig stolen before?

    FIRST!

    AI YA YAH!!!!!!!!

I feel for you BL.......CURSE the "bass turd" that did this.

OL.............."letting it out" is good for you! ;-)

  2. anklebiters:

You need something like a kryptonite lock......or something that a bolt cutter cannot cut through. Isn't there a security camera back there? Sorry to hear about your loss.
I see it happen here all the time on campus. Even our employees with a gated area to park their bikes have theirs stolen.

  3. KAN:

    Oh NOOOOOOOO! I'm sorry BL.

Two of my co-workers regularly bike to work. They stash their bikes in the back of the office because they don't feel safe leaving 'em in the racks downstairs. It's really sad.

  4. Scott:

That sucks BL. I remember talking to you at the Triad party last month and you were telling me about this exact same thing!

You can use one of those razor scooters (I think you have one) to run errands, but going to surf, hmmm, that's gonna be tricky now.

  5. LALeilani:

Awwww, that bites the big one. So sorry, BL!

Now no ride to the beach! You gotta get to the beach, that's part of the beauty of living in paradise, the ability to smell the clean fresh salt water air, the feeling of getting in the water for that first dunk, all that stuff.

Anyway. Are you planning on replacing the bike? If yes, I'll toss in a Kryptonite lock so hopefully this terrible thing won't happen again.

Chin up, Brah. Sucks now but it'll get better.

  6. Bre:

Don't you hate when that happens!

Sorry to hear about your bike. Check out the blog Kaleo o Kalihi. He talks about a great bike shop.

  7. M:

    Morning BL

  13. Warrior Dave:

    BL,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your second bike...I wish the thief get mega "Kakios" on their butt cheeks for stealing your ride.

    Glenn,

I am not too sure on what you are trying to say. I am not saying that I use perfect English, but, at times, I have difficultly reading some of the blogs because of the use of the pidgin language.

Anyway, what happen to BL, it’s a simple human mistake. We take it for granted that an unfortunate event will not happen to us and when it does, we are thrown for a loop. After we recover from it, we do not learn from our previous mistake(s) and continue to do the exact same thing over and over again, thinking that, “it can not happen to me again.” I think the illusion that a lot of “locals” believe in is, “this is Hawaii and nothing happens here.” Therefore, the “locals” take things for granted because of the “Aloha Spirit.”

With that said, BL, hopefully you will learn from this mistake, reflect back on the previous one and think of the alternatives. I would hate to hear and/or read about it happening to you again, especially if you continue to park your bike at the exact same location. Please learn from your mistakes.

    Have a great day.

    NB

  15. Caryn:

Bike theft was the big crime on campus back when I was in school--they told us before getting there not to waste our time on the kind of lock you've been using. It's all about the big black kryptonite U-lock! Never had a problem...

So sorry to hear it got stolen. :(

    BL,
We get stuff stolen from our yard & garage all the time. From tools to fish to rocks from the garden, its unbelievable what people will steal. And the cops are worthless, the last time something happened, the cop said "you should put up a fence around your yard". I told him "maybe you guys should patrol the neighborhood sometimes". He wasn't too happy !

  23. matt:

BL, sorry for the loss. like Rodney said, get a boros bike. then go one further and park it next to the nicest bike on the rack.

Heh? Brah, watevah you smokin'..... get off of it! Seriously, you think this was MY fault? Let me guess.... me parking my bicycle on PRIVATE PROPERTY, virtually away from public view, about 60 yards from one direction and 30 yards from another not near ANY public access, locked up in a bicycle rack is MY fault?

Guess it is my mistake for thinking that I would be able to do that.

Therefore, the “locals” take things for granted because of the “Aloha Spirit.”.....

Seriously, just say 'no'! Granted the "Aloha Spirit" gets taken advantage of by some but that "spirit" is what makes us better people as well. Why do you think so many people outside of Hawaii envy it? If you can't/don't understand that, I feel for ya... or is that another mistake on my part?

  29. Sittinginlimbo:

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that sooooooo sucks!

I know how you feel! It was early morning I'm preparing to vaccum Big White and I flip down the seats. I notice something different. I see screws on the floor and I see wires cut. I flip the other seat down. OMFG! WHERE THE HELL IS MY SOUND SYSTEM!!!!!! I ask my husband where's my speakers! He tells me while rolling his eyes yeah okay whatevers. I told him no seriously where is it? Did you take it out for something? He tells me no. Then looks for himself. Then says SON OF A B----------LEEP!

Where I use to live in Waipahu some freaken person broke into my suv and stoled my sound system on top of that they left their cigg on my daughter's stroller and brunt it! I was so pissed off. I wanted to go CSI on their ass! I was praying that my speakers and everything would blow up in their car! Yeah i'm evil so what! GOOD FOR YOU! Karma's a B--------leep! All my husband's hard working money to duke out my SUV GONEDEEZ!!!!!!! I must say though I'm surprised that they didn't try taking my freaken rims! DAM LOSERS!

UGH! I sooooo loved that car! :(

  30. David In Oregon:

Braddah Lance, sorry about the bike being stolen. That really sucks.

If you plan on getting another bike, get a better lock. Cables, especially thinner ones like the one you were using, can be cut too easily. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not blaming you for your bike being stolen. Believe me, I hate thieves. The fool that jacked your bike should be punished. I'm not going to say what kind of punishment I feel is appropriate, this is after all a public blog; however, I have some ideas in mind.

As far as the Kryptonite lock picking disaster, that is over and done with. Kryptonite was smart enough to realize the lose money situation they were in, so they smartly recalled all of the locks and replaced them. I know, because I had 2 locks with that older style of key, and Kryptonite replaced my locks with brand new ones that use a (newer) different style of key. From shipping the locks back to Kryptonite, to having the locks replaced, to having the locks shipped back to me, Kryptonite paid for the cost of everything. I didn't pay anything.

Another thing to watch, check to see how the bike rack itself is mounted on the ground. Some racks are not attached to anything. Some are buried in concrete. Some are stupidly attached using nuts and bolts. It won't matter what lock you use, if all the thief has to do is simply unbolt the rack from the ground, in order to get your bike.

  37. New Blogger:

    BL,

I hope this blog finds you in better spirits.

In response to your comment #25, all I can say is “whoa” just relax. I sincerely apologize, perhaps I should have used a different word, instead of using the word “mistake” I should have used the word “oversight.” Let me elaborate, from what you have so eloquently described as far as the parameters of the Honolulu Advertiser “private property” lot, it seems very secure. I too would have taken it for granted that nothing could happen there, with it being so secured. Now, if we go back about three (3) years ago, to when the first “oversight” occurred, I would have learned from this “oversight” and never park my bicycle there ever again. Because of my thinking, if this place is so secured and it happen to me once, it might happen again; so I am never parking it here ever again, because hell if I am going to experience it a second time.

Again Bradah Lance, I truly do apologize if my blog was interpreted in a bad way. I truly do feel your pain and because of this, I was only offering advice, so this does not happen again. I wouldn’t want it to happen to you a third time, meaning having your bike stolen from the exact same place (a third time). People out there are just plain bad and have no consideration for people’s personal property.

You not only come up with outstanding blogs, but you are funny as heck too. You do not need to defend what the “Aloha Spirit” is; I fully understand the just of it, of course in my own perspective. All I was merely pointing out is because of this envious “spirit” that people outside of the State of Hawaii envy, we (locals) are too trusting. And I don’t blame them; I too am guilty of it. At times I get burned, but I learn from it, so I don’t get burned a second time. And no, this time you were not mistaken, you just merely interpreted what I was trying to say differently, that's all. I appreciate you admitting fault, but it was not necessary.

It is my hope that this has cleared some of the smoke. Have a good one.

    NB

Another thing to watch, check to see how the bike rack itself is mounted on the ground.

Da rack is pretty heavy and two or three guys could carry it easy but like I said, it's in an employee only area and you rarely, if any, see "strangers" there. But I guess night time is different.

Brah, my spirits are fine..... especially Miller Lite and Crown Royal.

In response to your comment #25, all I can say is “whoa” just relax.

ME relax? Seriously, don't keep puffing away. Puff puff give.

I sincerely apologize, perhaps I should have used a different word, instead of using the word “mistake” I should have used the word “oversight.”

No mattah wat word you use, you still trying to mean da same thing so wat's da difference?

I would have learned from this “oversight” and never park my bicycle there ever again. Because of my thinking, if this place is so secured and it happen to me once, it might happen again; so I am never parking it here ever again, because hell if I am going to experience it a second time.

Daaaammmmn - wat a life you live! You must not eat out, park anywhere or do anything because your "thinking" of "hell [you're] going to experience it a second time." I guess dat slow service you received at a restaurant you're definitely not going back to, da parking lot wea your car door got a little dinged you're nevah going back or to da store wea they had maybe a spoiled fruit you'll nevah buy produce there again.

I wouldn’t want it to happen to you a third time, meaning having your bike stolen from the exact same place (a third time). People out there are just plain bad and have no consideration for people’s personal property.

No doubt get some real pilau people out there and I'll take da awesome advice of some of da oddah posters like getting a bettah lock and taking da seat off da post..... but I'm STILL going to park in da bicycle rack! Isn't dat wat it's for?

I appreciate you admitting fault, but it was not necessary.

Huh? Oh, my bike being stolen was my fault. Oh yeah.

It is my hope that this has cleared some of the smoke.

Yup. I can breathe bettah now.

    Hey BL --

Oh man, that sucks having your bike stolen! :x

My house was broken into years ago, when I was still living with my maddah. We had just gotten back from Vegas, and saw the screen door was cut, and someone had gotten in through the back door.

They went right past our lil' chihuahua-terrier attack dog "Cujo" and waltzed right in. Must have been a young kid, cause they only took some of my mom's junk costume jewelry -- even her beads from the Rio Casino! WWD!!

My maddah smart though -- all her good stuff wasn't in the jewelry box, but was hidden around her room.

They never touch the TVs or electronics. I'm thankful for that, but was kinda trippy that they didn't venture too far into the house. Still, you feel violated when that stuff happens -- was hard to sleep after that. I was all agitated and was ready to dish out some cracks. :x

Took a while to get over those feelings of anger and vulnerability...

  50. BananaFysh:

    aigoo! I used the casin0 word! :x

    D'oh!

    moderation sucks :(

  51. BananaFysh:

I saw on this one site how guys would take a cherry bicycle, then paint um and put tape to make um look all bus up. Pretty trippy. But then again, if your bike was already bus up, then no matter.

Some guys just going steal stuff regardless if nice or bus -- those donkeys going steal your bus up bike just because you locked it up, just "for kicks," or because they can, and just have no respect for anything or anyone. :x

Jus like how some people like tell you was dumb of you to leave your bike there, and was your fault was stolen. ;)

    WWD!?!?!

  52. sally:

It's like, you get a new used car... cherry... so happy you alive, then the psycho neighbor's GF keys it while you're away for da weekend cuz she thinks you da one went rat on her when she was screaming and swearing at da BF while landlord was away. When in reality, it was the whole darn lane AND the surrounding apts that could hear her and reported her to the landlord. I just happen to live in the adjoining apt.

Well, she may have keyed my car, but I took car of business, and long story short, she living elsewhere and got a whole new set of bills to pay.

  53. sally:

Re-reading my post and sounds like I committed a crime or something hahaha. No, dats not what I meant.

    Hey BL,

I just saw one of those folding bikes chained to the banister right up on the 3rd floor balcony here. I see that it folds right in the middle. I'm gonna see who owns it and see how much it costs.

MayBEE you should take the seat with you with your replacement bike when you park it :?: Very scary to ride a bike with no seat.... :-)

  61. KAN:

    Scott - you rock.
