Are You In The Black Or Red?
By Braddah Lance
So did you brave crowds? Did you snag some unreal deals somewhere? Are you overstuffed with turkey? Turkey sandwich now? Turkey juk? What was on your menu yesterday?
Da Wife was asked to do a turkey this year - we always spend it an Aunty's house during da holidays - and we were both shocked! We usually bring something Da Wife cooks or bakes up or my wasabi salad but of course gotta bring da kim chee. But dis time, Aunty asked if we'd like to do da turkey. Wat could we say? They are always so generous with opening up their house for all da family pah-tays so we (she) did it.
She brined the turkey.... watevah da heck dat means
but I helped. I had to carry da 26 pound suckah all ovah da place: from da pan to da bag, from da bag back to da pan, from da pan to da fridge (ok, Da Wife did dat with ALL da juices - by dat time was like ovah 30 pounds), then from da fridge to da counter, drain da buggah, carry it to da oven pan, tuck in da arms (we did dat part wrong), throw it in da oven, take it out and finally put it in anoddah pan.
See, I can cook.
Hea's da before............
Hea's da aftah..............
And I dunno about you but dis kinda freaked me out................
Nice job Babe! Turkey was ono and juicy!
Now she's tinking about cooking one for New Years.
And for those wondering about Da Triad pah-tay last week..... was good fun! Da numbahs have dropped a little but was still fun nonetheless. We had a Lurkah or two and a new poster show up too! Our high profile guest couldn't make it, sorry, due to an emergency but was nice seeing da "regulahs".
Hope to see da rest of you at da next one!

Good job on the bird! I hit Home Depot before coming to work. Seems like everybody and his cousin was buying the $20.00 shop vac. People going buy for Christmas but going spend way less. This is when we'll see the trickle down effect of the furloughs.
November 27th, 2009 at 8:08 am
yeah, brining is the way to go! works on other things too, like pork chops. The food is tasty and moist! Wow, that turkey looks pretty good!
November 27th, 2009 at 8:13 am
I"m avoiding the mall like the plague today. It's all about getting through the work day then hitting 8Fat for some delicious malted adult beverages.
November 27th, 2009 at 8:37 am

November 27th, 2009 at 8:42 am
Nice bird BL, da wife did a good job with your heavy lifting.
Went Office Depot early this morning and wasn't too bad, only waited about 1/2 hour in cashier line and picked up a Acer laptop to replace my very old Dell. I may venture out again to find some Transformers for my grandson.

November 27th, 2009 at 9:45 am
Wow, good job BL and Mrs. BL. Brining the turkey keeps it moist, but wow, lifting something that heavy is tough - you worked off your holiday calories b/4 you even ate!
November 27th, 2009 at 10:23 am
Braddah Lance: yeah, i saw da other pics. You don't know what the MLC folks doing? They giving you the Thanksgiving salute. They giving you da bird!
November 27th, 2009 at 10:48 am
BL, Plenty shop vacs at 6:10am. And yes, I had to buy the 6 pack flashlights. I got both and it looks like they were prepared cuz there were a lot of cartons in 2 different locations. I'm using them for stocking stuffers.
November 27th, 2009 at 11:10 am
Well not really.... casuse lifitng 26+ pounds multiple times wouldn't even put a dent into da 5000+ calorie fest we had.

Wow, that turkey does looked good! I remember the first time I made the turkey, I swore I was going to become a vegetarian. I was so grossed out. I was rinsing the turkey in the sink and felt like I was bathing a baby. Ewwww!!!!!
This is the first year I told my mom that we needed something green on the menu, so she brought a tossed salad. Usually we carb out on stuffing, rice, mac/potato salad and sweet potatoes!
November 27th, 2009 at 11:51 am
@BL, our part time bizz is not bake goods. In this down ecomony everyone wants to cut cost to save money or make some extra money. I can show people how to cut cost on things everybody is spending money on in every household and even make extra money for yourself on the same things people are spending money on in every household.....does that make sense? It does to me....
November 27th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
BL: since the MLC folks gave you the bird, all you got to do now is stuff it.
November 27th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Even Tiger Woods was in a hurry to get in line for a black Friday sale!
November 27th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Howzit BL and all you udda bugga's
Wow man das one BIG bird
Love the pics
NKHEA..... still like eat turkey
November 27th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Hey BL,
i never tried it on steak, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I wouldn't do it to a ribeye or a NY strip, but it's good on anything you would BBQ. BBQ pork chops and pork loin are good if brined, and same thing with whole chickens, turkeys, that kinda thing.
November 27th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Great pictures BL....the turkey looks delicious....who got the wish bone
My stocking stuffers are the Scratchem lottery tickets. I buy them for my kids and we always come out ahead except for one year year.
November 27th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
OOHH BL, the turkey looked guuuud! Great job! heehee...
November 27th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Bring da kim chee tomorrow
November 29th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
WOW! Just got back from Thanksgiving at Disneyland. We have been doing this for quite a few years now and it got to be that we never hung around the parks much because of the crowds. This year there were very few lines and we actually went on some of the attractions. This has been the 1st real view I've had of how bad (different) the economy really is.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Turkey and Kim Chee mmm wish I had dinner with BL's Aunty folks.

Great pix! The turkey looks great. We did not host Thanksgiving this year because too much going on. My sister was nice enough to cook. Christmas will be at my house.
Niece and I went to Toys R Us on Thursday/Friday. They opened at 12:00 a.m. so not so bad. We got there at 11:30 p.m. and were out be 1:00. We went to get a DS for my nephew but it was one of the items not on sale!!
Have a great week!!
November 29th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
