Ding! Ding! Game On.

On Jan 5th's blog Results Not Typical, NEO had posted a comment since at da time there were some posts about losing weight:

NEO:
January 5th, 2010 at 4:02 pm   edit
here's an idea for all the WWDers... we go diet/exercise, share em on top hea, and den we go pahtay 6 months from now... with success stories... how bout it?

NEO............ *Jeopardy song playing* ............. GAME ON!

All I know is wen there's a WWD! challenge..... I'm there! It only took a few months for a Kwonic to step up and issue a WWD! No Scade 'Em Go Get 'Em Challenge and I'm stoked by it!

I dunno how else to do it oddah than doing a combination of things and giving a point scale to it. It is/will be a work in progress so I'm gonna definitely need some feedback to establish some ground rules for da "game".

I was just thinking we make 'em kinda simple for instance, for those who lost so many pounds (in certain ranges 0-5 pounds 1 point, 6-8 pounds 3 points etc) you get so many points and those who hit their "goal" (doesn't have to be their "ideal weight") get bonus points and of course if you hit your "ideal weight" according to The Army height/weight chart below you get even more bonus points.

It's still in da works so if you got anything to add, No Scade 'Em Go Get 'Em and share and once we decide how it'll be run, I'll post da "rules" up. I really hope we get a good turn out and to help motivate, we'll do "weigh in's" maybe every couple of weeks. Dis will be a long "challenge" as we're trying to get our bodies heading into lifestyle changes so our projected end date will be July 2nd... to help celebrate our Independence.

Hopefully we can arrange a pah-tay and get some prizes out at da end but hea's da grand daddy of them all (I hope)....... da one who wins da challenge will get 5 passes for my kim chee at their will (one week lead time please).

Is dat a good enough prize?

Below is a chart used by The US Army and I'll tell you right now... I'm not "fit".

Funny thing. My friend went to his doctor and was told dis......

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A:
Heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually.. Speed up heart not make live longer; that like say you can extend life of car by driving faster. Want live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies.. What does cow eat? Hay and corn. What are these? Vegetables. So, steak nothing more than efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef also good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And pork chop can give 100% recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A:
If you have body and you have fat, ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A:
Cannot think of single one, sorry. My philosophy: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A:
YOU NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A:
Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger.. You should only do sit-ups if want bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A:
You crazy? HELLO .... Cocoa beans! Vegetable!!! Cocoa beans best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A:
If swimming good for figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A:
Hey! 'Round' is shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies:

1. The Japanese eat very little fat...... And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat..... And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine..... And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4 The Italians drink a lot of red wine..... And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5.. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats..... And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION.....

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Now if you believed any of da "jokes", I got some land to sell you in Kalapana.

Happy Feel Good Friday Everybodies!

I starting to like the army. I was trying to lose some pounds since november, knowing what a two week trip back home for the holidays would do to me (btw, I lost ten and gained back 5, so I still get room for more). Now, I look the chart and I'm under the recommended weight for my height/age!! gotta go show this to my mom so she stops ragging on me.

  2. Braddah Lance:

I'll weigh in first...... I'm *gulp* 173. Gained about 8 pounds from da trip and one month of inactivity.

My goal is to actually lose weight to maybe 155 (actual goal is 160) than try to "bulk" back up to 165. We'll see.

Right now, I'm close to being obese  as according to da chart I'm supposed to be 158.

  3. Braddah Lance:

Ok, matt......... you no can play!

    And stop bragging.

  4. Kage:

I like play, but I will not.
Not that I am scared. I just NEVER do well with weight lost challenges.

According to the chart, I am TOO big. Like I neva know dat auredy.

I'm thinking if I can get down to about 30lbs over that number on the chart, I going be in way better shape than I am in now.

  5. M:

    Howzit BL!

I just went to the doctor yesterday and weighed in at 164.

  6. 1dble:

I'm in, but will not post what I weigh now, here. Only gotta know I'm WAY over where I should be according to the Army. Rather work on it and in the end announce the finlay results, if that's cool. You know us females, don't want to admit to anything unless it's something good...lol. Let me know where/when gotta check in!

  7. Scott:

Man, this is a great time for me. I just joined a gym and I've gone everyday the last 7 days.

    Ok, I'm 30 years old, 5'11'' and weigh 197.
My goal is to lose 3-4 pounds a month, and I AIN'T GIVING UP BEER OR WINE!!!
    Game on!

  8. M:

I'm 5'7" and 56 years young. According to the chart, at 164 lbs., I'm 17-20 years old.... :)

  11. Rosette:

geesh when I got married I was 85 pound now 98 ..how much more do I need to lose....one time I tried joining I got kick out ..the lady said if I lose weight I be STICK....well.....okay I try 5 pound to lose in it will take me ONE YEAR okay. You weigh me after pms I usually lose five pounds.

  12. hemajang:

okay, for clarification, there is a minimum weight column and next column (s) is ideal or maximum weight for your height/age? According to the chart, I would be in the 40+( plus a few more plusses) age so my ideal weight should be 170 lbs?....wow lau lau, sounds a bit momona to me. Right now if I were to lose 10 lbs, da army would refer me for immediate medical evaluation. Like said befo' some think I too skinny and weak but feels right for me. Anyway, charts are too generalized, being fit is da main thing, nevah mind the actual poundage.

  13. Ynaku:

opso, I must be 6' 6" That's what I say and nobody can tell me I'm not.

I'm not listening nah nah nah nah nah nah nah

Even me, I like to call myself "athletic" so I can stay "above" da "ideal weight".

  15. KAN:

Like 1dble, I'm not gonna say how much I weigh, but I'm 4 pounds lighter than the max weight to be fit for my height (short). WWD? Esp. since a couple of pounds ago, my doctor told me not to gain any more weight b/c my body mass index was on the high side (humph).

I'd love to lose at least 5 pounds, most of dat from too much eggnog. I still won't fit into my skinny jeans, but at least I'll be able to fit into my dress pants again (see O&E).

  16. aokami:

    Happy New Year braddah Lance!
Hate that chart, I select to ignore it as part of the obese contingency. Converting to muscle though, so not all that bad. Well, actually is. Off meds this year, da goal!

  17. Kage:

    @aokami - I like be a part of the obese contingency...haha.

  18. Coconut Willy:

    All in for Kim Chee!

I got scared when I first hit the link. It said I was blocked because my IP address sent spam to Honolulu Advertiser. I tried again later and it was okay.

  19. NKHEA:

    Howzit BL

Shoots I stay in on dis one ;) Me 40 plus, 5'4" 200 lbs. 8O goin try to get to weight down to 150 lbs. ;) :)

NKHEA..... goin drink only light beea from now on

  20. Ocean Lover:

Eh BL........your chart is all wrong! Too heavy da buggah as it says I can weigh 165 for my height. At that weight I'd look like "mini-sumo".

And BTW..........I going be uncle or what? ;-)

    OL

  21. Makiki:

OK I'm in. I don't know if I could ever get to the Army weight but I would like to lose about 50# or grow about a foot and a half. I'm kinda worried though since last time I lost weight (about 30# on Atkins) I ended up having bypass surgery and I wasn't even 40 yet. FYI - I don't really believe the 2 are related.

Kim Chee and a party is pretty good motivation!

    Alan from Makiki

  22. 808 Dad:

    Hey Lance,
We had a similar contest at work. They took everyone weight and who ever loss the greatest percentage of their original weight won the prize. I no can play. 6’ 0” and 174lbs.

    808 Dad

  23. M:

Everyone who started work at my work place has gained weight. If their not working, their eating.

  24. sally:

WHATTT????? We gotta tell our weight???!!!???!!! RUKIDDINGME?

    hahahaha!
    I no like play.
I tell you my age before I tell you my weight. I'm 34 years old.
I no like join da army.
    I got swampland to sell.
Okay, cannot lie, I'm 36 yrs old.

Guud Luck boyz. I going play by myself and compare my progress with you guys.

  25. Kage:

HUH? WOT? Sally playing with herself!!??

  26. Kage:

    Only kidding Sally.

  27. sally:

@Kage: hey hey hey now. I was going start yesterday, now I gotta start tomorrow. Just came home from Zippys and a Jello Parfait.

    *oh me of no willpower

  28. Shauna:

I also think that chart is WAY off! If I were anywhere near the maximum weight I would look super heavy!! I think this chart is for the typical American and not Asians, who tend to be a bit smaller. However, the minimum weight (at least for my height) is a realistic number I think to maintain to look fit... Then again, they say muscle weighs more than fat so if you're heavier but are still lean, then that would be OK...

...wants to lose a couple pounds to maintain the ideal weight

  29. hawaiiobsessed:

wow. the army is very generous. I don't need to lose weight after all. Just kidding. I want to lose 10. Good luck everyone!

  30. sally:

The chart stops at 40+. So does that mean we not gonna get extra pound allowance when we're 50? 60?

*cuz I stay somewhea in between.

I just want my clothes to fit again. Damned New Years Cioppino took me over the top.

  31. sally:

oh, I meant to say "for when I get to be somewhea in between".

    *whew!*

  32. AC:

How about looking at the BMI chart instead for those who think the Army chart is too "heavy?"

  33. HNL2LAS:

Hmm... good idea AC! uhmm cuz according to that chart? I'm lighter than my ideal healthy weight.... so uhh guess that means I'm already healthy, bhahhha...yeah right... but I most definitely need to lose some poundage! I'm looking at 20-25 lbs, bhahah that's the same goal all the time.. but maybe I have incentive now!

  34. Michael:

    No Habla Ingles.

I will live forever than. :)

  35. jaydee:

I'm 5'9" and weigh 155lbs. and according to the chart my body is that of a 21-27 year old. This is probably true because my weight has changed very little now that I'm 55. I made a goal when I was 27 to keep and stay fit after a friend of mine told me I would stop working out after 2 months.

Here I am almost 30 years later and still going strong. I run a couple of miles twice a week and lift at the gym 3-4 times a week.

  36. hemajang:

Looked into height/weight charts online and found some interesting info/charts that varied according to different criteria. The army chart was the most generous, poundage-wise. Think the army chart is way off but I read somewhere that you live longer if you "little" overweight and that body fat percentage and distribution are important factors in longevity. The following statement I lifted from one of the sites says it all: "In reality, it is actually different for every individual and is dependent on health, body fat content and distribution, musculature, age, activity, metabolism, and a host of other factors that are not simple to measure accurately."

Think jaydee's regime and consistent weight through the years is da best.

  37. TwoFish:

Lance - Do you want to accompany me in my commute to and from work? 10 flat blocks. Let me know!

Is the Army weight guide taking into account a certain percentage of body fat versus muscle?

  38. jaydee:

BL: I think all those who participate in this contest should post a before pic then later an after pic.

    What you think? :)

  39. NEO:

    BL-

Jeez brah... now I GOTTA lose weight... since you kinna wen put me on da spot... I'm 205 right now (5-5) but I get heavy bones... goal is about 180... was close before holidays and stuff but you know how that goes... I just wanted to make one game that will get us thinking about health... not just weight loss... BL, we go eat yo kim chee (make um extra hot, and we'll sweat off the pounds...) kinda like Richard Simmons' Sweatin' to the oldies, 'cept this one is "Sweatin' to the kim chee"

    NEO

  40. skycastles:

@NEO - Hey I tried Sweatin' to the Oldies before and it actually worked . . . but it was mostly because I was laughing so hard at the shorty shorts. Good for the ab workout

  41. tita leerz:

scuse me but, i no like be 135 pounds! i like be 125! who the heck writes up this stuff? they should really make a different table for hawaii people (or one with asian backgrounds).

anyhoots...i started a diet this year. i'm well on my way to making 125! i was regularly exercising during the last half of last year (but not so much around the holidays) :( gone back to at least 3x a week. eating lots of fruits and veggies. for the first week of this year, didn't have any animal proteins (including milk and eggs) just cuz i felt yucky from over indulging over the holidays. of course, no refined sugars, bakery products (anything with yeast, even it is whole grain), and foods that have unpronounceable words in their lables. yes, a little more costly and time consuming but i've lost 4 pounds since then 4th! ...and no, i am not starving myself. :)

  42. tita leerz:

BTW, i'm also less moody (ROFL!), i sleep better and i "go" better. #2 in less than 5 minutes. wipe clean and no match necessary! LOL!!!

  43. NEO:

@tita leerz what you've done is detoxify yourself... it works! Another thing that works pretty well for detox is wheatgrass... One shot in the AM with a OJ back... tastes like drinking fresh cut grass, (it kinda is) but it cleans your system. Makes you go #2... also, if you get chance, take the HOTTEST shower you can stand and then dunk yourself in cold water if you get pool @ home... the temp change shocks your body and causes your metabolism to boost... they do it @ a spa in Maui...

    NEO

  44. tita leerz:

thanks for the tip NEO! i gotta work up the "testicular fortitude" to do the temperature thing, though.

Yup, I know dat first hand! Considering dat I am SHORT, my weight has nevah matched da height/weight ratio because I've been involved in athletics all my life. I've always been in some kine of training or lifting so my "mass" is just that, mass. Only now in my MLC status dat mass unfortunately is turning into chub.

Lance - Do you want to accompany me in my commute to and from work? 10 flat blocks. Let me know!

Nah, surfing is waaaay bettah.

Is the Army weight guide taking into account a certain percentage of body fat versus muscle?

Maybe since you need to have more strength, initially, to go through boot camp and basic training.

Another thing that works pretty well for detox is wheatgrass... One shot in the AM with a OJ back... tastes like drinking fresh cut grass

There's dis guy I knew dat used to take it straight up everyday!

also, if you get chance, take the HOTTEST shower you can stand and then dunk yourself in cold water if you get pool @ home... the temp change shocks your body and causes your metabolism to boost...

Now I gotta find me a spa to sneak into..........
