Wat's Da First Meal Of Da Day?
By Braddah Lance
They say a big hearty breakfast is da most importat meal of da day.
They say lunch should be your biggest meal of da day.
They say dinner should be eaten no later than three hours before bed time.
Who da heck is "they"?
Personally, I've nevah been a breakfast eater evah since shmall kid time cause well, couldn't really afford it - not even school lunch kine. "They" say dat breakfast helps you in school performance but yet I was a straight A honor roll student....... untill high school.
I've always been more of a "brunch" kine of person cause it's too early to cook and a lot of times, at least locally, get fried foods accompaning a breakfast meal whether it be bacon, potagee sausage or spam. Me and oily fried foods straight up in da early morning no mix. My enzymes in my tummy take awhile to wake up too.
I no eat breakfast regularly but I LOVE breakfast foods..... Wassap Wit Dat!
My body no can handle ceral regularly too cause of da sugah (not to mention dat milk does my body NO good... iykwim) and then I even tried da protein breakfast shakes... same result since it's milk based.
"Breakfast" is sooo ono and it's actually da ONLY "meal" you can eat anytime but it's only served one time a day at 99% of restaurants.... WWD!. Da Wife and I, probably at least a couple times a month, make "breakfast" for dinnah - moreso cause it's fast and easy.
Weird yeah? Fast and easy fo' make breakfast for dinnah but not fast and easy to make breakfast for breakfast yeah? LOL
So wat's your favorite breakfast food(s)? Wat place serves your favorite breakfast foods done right? Favorite breakfast restaurant? Favorite breakfast fast food joint? Does you shove breakfast down your keiki's throat? Is breakfast "mandatory" in your home? You one breakfast, lunch or dinnah kine person?
I hungry now..... anybody like trade breakfast for kim chee?
SHOUT OUT: I got a 4 pack of tickets for tomorrow night's UH baseball game vs Oregon in PRIME TIME seating from da action. Lower lodges 4 rows up...... who wants 'em?

Wassup Wit Dat!

My favorite breakfast food is corned beef hash, eggs and rice!
Favorite breakfast restaurant? Ken's House of Pancakes
Favorite fast food place for breakfast? McDonald's
I'm a morning person, so... I love breakfast!
During the week days, I don't have time to make fancy breakfast. I usually have one cup coffee and two egg whites.
February 25th, 2010 at 8:56 am
I like to scramble 2 eggs, then put them on a toasted bagel with a piece of ham, and bacon bits and hot sauce on top. That, and a cup of coffee sends me screaming to the bathroom when finished
, but it sustains me since I've been lifting weights almost every morning.
February 25th, 2010 at 9:06 am
Favorite: Pocho sausage, rice, egg (up) and a short stack of pancakes.
Most days: Cereal, yogurt, OJ. Blahhh....
February 25th, 2010 at 9:15 am
Definitely Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice is my favorite breakfast! When I was living on Kauai, most Sundays I would go to McDonalds and get my fix. Now... nothing here like Portuguese sausage. At least I can make my own Spam, eggs and rice if I need to. Most often here breakfast consists of grits or homefries, eggs and bacon or sausage. The grits are pretty good if you know how to eat them. I never used to be a big breakfast eater myself but I discovered if I had breakfast, my day would just be more energetic! The best is having breakfast for dinner though.
February 25th, 2010 at 9:17 am
My favorite breakfast is Zippy's omelet with mushrooms. ONO! At McD's, I like portguese sausage, eggs and rice AND pancakes (I split the pancakes with my husband...even I cannot eat that much).
On a normal day, I eat dry cereal (like you, BL, no can handle the milk) and maybe a fruit, with a tall glass of OJ.
For my daughter's breakfast, it's always some kind of fruit, OJ and something else, either cereal, pop tart (her favorite) or PBJ, etc.
My biggest meal is definitely lunch.
February 25th, 2010 at 9:41 am
... hey Braddah Lance ... breakfast??? ... wat dat??? ... I've never really been a breakfast eater ... 'cause I can't get up early enough to call it breakfast ... I was always late for school and now late for work ... so don't have time ... my first meal (for what seems like forever) has been lunch ...
... and I break almost every rule there is about eating right ... not only because I don't eat breakfast ... but, especially because I almost always eat dinner really ... really ... really ... really late at night ... and almost right before I go to sleep to ...
... my absolute favorite breakfast food ... is ... of course ... unhealthy ... I luv Frosted Flakes®!!! ... I eat 'um whenever though ... as I said I don't eat breakfast much ... so I eat Frosted Flakes® for lunch, for dinner, or just straight out of the box ... They're Grrrreat™!!! ...
... Have a Good One Everyone!!! ...
February 25th, 2010 at 9:52 am
... and a couple more things ...
... I don't like the "Steak and Eggs" breakfast ... I no can eat "regular" food first thing in the morning ... maybee psychological ... but just doesn't seem right ...
... oh, and a friend drinks Coke™ with breakfast ... in fact, she'd drink a Coke™ when she gets up ... just weird to me ... I can't figure out why you'd want a carbonated drink that early ...

On the weekends I have my first breakfast, usually around 6:30 or 7, which is a bowl of oatmeal and toast. After a half hour rest I go for a 2 mile run.
The second breakfast is around 10:30-11 and is most likely a couple two, three slices of spam and 3 eggs over-easy.
Weekdays I start with a bowl of cereal around 6 then a larger breakfast around 8. Yeah, I eat a lot but I work out a lot so I have to feed the body.
February 25th, 2010 at 10:05 am
actually, what I enjoy is the late night menu at Dennys.... Damn Hooburrito is genius in a tortilla... I actually enjoy making a Portuguese Sausage Omelet for dinner, over rice with a little sirarcha hot sauce... hooo buggahz perfz... also make my own version of "Moons over My Hammy" but instead of layers of ham, egg and cheese, I fold the ham and egg together (like an omelet) and I also use crumbled bacon in the eggs, and 2 slices cheese on thick bread... OH MAN, SOOO GOOD!!

My favorite breakfast food is hash and eggs with gravy - especially from Rainbows since it's available all the time.
My favorite breakfast place is IHOP on Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas. Whenever we catch the red-eye flight to LV, after getting the car, we head to IHOP. I especially like that they keep a carafe of coffee right on the table so no need wait for refills.
Plus, eating breakfast there would mean that we just got in to Vegas and are about to start our vacation. Makes the place feel that much better.
Once we're staying at The Cal, it's breakfast at Market Street Cafe. I like the steak and eggs or Zippy's chili omelet, but it's too heavy for me. So I opt for the sweet bread french toast. That fills me up for only a couple of hours - just long enough to hit In-N-Out for lunch.
February 25th, 2010 at 10:35 am
Howzit BL!
I no eat breakfast during the work week. I get up at 5 and out da door at 5:30am, too early to be making breakfast.
On da weekends I'll make 2 eggs, easy over on rice and a couple slices of spam.
February 25th, 2010 at 11:13 am
Aloha All!
Bacon, Spinach and cheese omelet from Sam Choy's BLC. Although, if you at this daily you'd qualify for a heart bypass real quick.
February 25th, 2010 at 11:16 am
I lurve breakfast. On weekdays I have cereal and vanilla almond milk (I NCH regular milk either) + tea. On weekends, I like corned beef hash, rice and eggs or waffles and bacon, depending on what I'm more ono for.
My dad never used to eat breakfast, but just like you, he loves breakfast food, so we'd have breakfast for dinner pretty frequently.
I know Voula's didn't do much for you when you were up here, but it's my favorite breakfast spot, and my favorite Voula's breakfast is the Carl's Special: cut-up breakfast sausage and mushrooms scrambled into eggs and extra-crispy hash browns. I finish that breakfast on a regular basis, which always amazes me 'cuz they give BIG portions. Alternatively, my second favorite breakfast is the Diamond Head special at Kona Kitchen - 3 big wedges of sweet bread made into french toast with bacon and sausage on the side.
February 25th, 2010 at 11:28 am
Potogee sausage, eggs, and rice! But not just any sausage. Hilo kine is my fav. Miko or Mountain Apple from KTA (but it gives me some mean burp backs)
If I go out, Zippy's corned beef hash and eggs.
I usually make breakfast for the family at home. Bisquick is da bomb!
@rayboyjr, how you do this coke thing? Coke™ with the tm?

We were staying at Granville Bed and Breakfast last week in Vancouver and the breakfast were great. http://www.granvillebb.com/ The entree changed daily but my favorite were the omelets and Canadian bacon. Daily were steel-cut oats slow cooked in a crockpot. I have oatmeal most mornings but this was in a class of its own. The condiment tray had organic raisins, cranberries, walnuts and cinnamon. There were also breads, bagels, blueberry muffins, cornbread and a bowl of fresh fruit. Wife usually asked for a latte from our host and I drank black coffee. I highly recommend this place if you are ever in Vancouver.
Otherwise, I will typically have instant oatmeal with fruit and walnuts or wheat toast with peanut butter and sliced bananas and a two cups of black coffee.
February 25th, 2010 at 12:26 pm
Good Afternoon.
Breakfast...mmmmmmmmmm.
I love breakfast. My favorite is fresh corned beef hash. The can kine will suffice, but nothing compares to the fresh stuff. Bob's Big Boy had a pretty good one. Been a while since I've been there. Two eggs sunny side up and a big scoop of rice. YUM.
Pancakes are awesome. Now days I watch my sugar so its gotta be sugar free syrup. This and a glass of cold milk. Find me a couch, I will not be moving any time soon.
February 25th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
It's not my favorite breakfast, but I eat a bowl of cheerios with soy milk pretty much every weekday morning. I like the tofu-veggie omelet at Big City Diner, but would seriously eat bacon, link sausage and pancakes if it wasn't for the trying to eat healthy thing.
February 25th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
Real corned beef or can kine?
I gotta check dat place out one day.
Obviously.

February 25th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
yum, yum... i love breakfast! only thing is, i think i eat it most often late at night at zippy's! that being said, i don't eat that kind of breakfast very often. usually it's cereal and skim milk on the weekdays, maybe a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich or fried rice on the weekends. like you, i've never been a breakfast kind of person... i kind of force myself to eat it so i don't feel like i'm starving later in the day!
speaking of fresh corned beef hash, i had the best at a deli type restaurant in san francisco! omg! it was soooooo good! i even tried to make it myself later at home when we had leftover corned beef (gotta be the fresh one, not canned!). otherwise, i like boots and kimo (banana pancakes with the mac nut sauce!) or eggs and things. i like pancakes but i love a good belgian waffle (hot, crunchy... yum!)!
February 25th, 2010 at 1:16 pm
@hemas. You were at the Olympics? Cool! I like Granville Island.
February 25th, 2010 at 1:17 pm
Corned Beef Hash and Eggs with Spam Eggs and Rice as a close second. Even though those are my favorites I don't eat them very often. In Hawaii I usually get up early and eat Breakfast over a few hours while working - small bowl of cereal, fruit, yogurt, muffin. On the Mainland I sleep later and usually don't eat until lunch.
Fast food would be McD's - that's where I get the Spam Eggs and Rice when I feel lazy.
Funny you should mention Hash House A Go Go. Had a bad experience a few weeks ago at the new one at the Imperial Palace. Made the trip over from the Hilton and they were out of Corned Beef Hash! Had the Meatloaf Hash instead and was junk!
Why da wahine get the credit cards?

@Coconut Willy ... the TM is an alternate keyboard character ... there's a set of special characters you can use ... to get it, you first gotta get the code of the character you want ...
... for example, the TM code is 0153 ... so you hold down the Alt key, type in 0153, then release the Alt key ... you should get the TM character ™ ...
... you can find a whole bunch of other stuff ... that can make your posts a little more interesting ...

Funny, I was never much of a breakfast eater growing up. But when I got to U.H. and noticed all these people at Campus Center drinking coffee in the morning, it got me hooked.
What's drinking coffee without munching on something? BL, since we do da same kine work, if the day calls for wracking my brain analyzing an account or doing a reconciliation, I just get big-time hungry. Mental activity vs. physical...my brain is all twisted.
Gulick Deli is a good place to grab some grinds in the morning. They give a lot and depending on how discipline I feel, I won't choose anything starchy. It's all about the carbs.
February 25th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
try to balance some days with cereal/oatmeal, and some days with eggs and breakfast meat.fav breakfast... bacon, scrambled eggs and rice. most definitely gotta have the coffee or no can function.
February 25th, 2010 at 2:01 pm
BL, the corned beef that comes in a can is real corned beef, at least to locals.
My favorite: Scrambled eggs, sausage (pork or Pocho or vienna), rice, toast, fresh fruit, OJ.
Pizza is also an excellent breakfast.
February 25th, 2010 at 2:02 pm
During the week I eat yogurt with fruit or granola. I often eat cereal for dinner when I work late.
When I go out to breakfast, I love the omelets!
February 25th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
Many of the hole-in-the-wall local breakfast places no longer around. I used to like the Japanese breakfast at Wisteria (miso soup, eggs, fish, tsukemono and rice). Zippy's at Ala Moana has Japanese breakfast, but not the same. Also like Zippy's corn beef hash, eggs and fried rice...not the best, but convenient.
Most weekdays, oatmeal and fruit breakfast.
February 25th, 2010 at 2:55 pm
I don't eat breakfast either. Mostly because I am just not hungry at that time of day. I like breakfast foods though and when I do eat out it's mostly IHOP or Denny's because they serve breakfast all day long. Once in a while I like huevos rancheros but usually at lunch or dinner. When I wake up in the mornings I usually have coffe and yogurt or cottage cheese. That's about all I can eat first thing.
February 25th, 2010 at 3:08 pm
Breakfast of Champions! Oatmeal with cranberries and Peanut Butter and Vanilla Soy Milk. yum yum. I thought it was weird when my friend first mentioned it, now I eat it every workday. Keeps my tummy full from 5:30 until about 11am then a banana or yogurt takes me to 1:00 lunch. Dinner is optional. Usually not hungry enough for a full on dinner. Cheerios is good.
Now that my clone is moving in with me I think I'm we're gonna start making real meals. oh no.
February 25th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
Holy canole! You get ready in 30mins? I'm in da "office" for at least 20.
Almost a spam loco.

Is it watery any cause of da spinach? A little tabasco on it sounds like a winnahs.
...........................................
...........................................
Vanilla almond milk? Sounds rich. Are there oddah "nut" milks out there?
It wasn't a "wow" factor dat time but then again it could have been just wat I ordered. Judging from da numbah of customers, it has to be doing something right. Maybe I was just to anxious to get to da game das why so I couldn't "enjoy" da grinds.
Heh? Really? Now dat's something! You're probably at least full till dinnah.
Sweet bread french toast is practically winnahs anywea!
.............................................

Hmmm, do they sell of those kine sausages on Oahu? I nevah heard of any of those.
Do you add watah or milk?

For da Olympics? If so, WOW! Sounds like dat B&B is top notch. I nevah stayed at one.
Aftah you blabbed about da B&B, your "nomal" breakfast sounds blah.
.................................................
.................................................
Funny thing. I grew up with da can stuff and I actually kine of like it bettah but gotta be on da crispy side, not mushy.
You know from all da stuff I hea about dat place, I've nevah been there! I gotta go.... soon.
..............................................
..............................................
Soy milk, tofu-veggie..... no wheat grass?
Yeah, eating "healthy" is tough wen you get to smelling da fatty oils like bacon. Tofu-veggie omelet huh? Do they use da "fake" eggs too?
February 25th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
Hi Braddah Lance,
I'm not much of a morning person, but rather a vampire. Hehe!
Anyhow, the easiest thing for me to eat when I wake up is cereal. No need to cook anything.
Best Restaurant for breakfast: Liliha Bakery. Yup! Love that place.
February 25th, 2010 at 7:42 pm
left over pizza anybody! I like oatmeal with peaches....left overs I eat...! February 25th, 2010 at 7:48 pm
kind of weird durign PMS my body goes crazy eat all sort then after that I go into the craving of healthy food then back to crazy junk food again...
February 25th, 2010 at 7:50 pm
My favorite breakfast meal is eggs over easy with tortillas. I never eat breakfast but I have this for dinner a lot! My favorite breakfast place is McDonalds - sausage mcmuffin with egg.
February 25th, 2010 at 9:30 pm
Hey BL: First off, hang in there! Praying for you all... just ugh....
Like you, breakfast foods are my favorite, but I hardly ever eat breakfast! Corned beef hash, bacon or spam with eggs and rice is my favorites...
Growing up, breakfast was mandatory.. even if I just had pop tarts!! Yah, had to have the "mind food" before school. Now.. eh.. breakfast if I'm lucky.
February 26th, 2010 at 6:07 am
@BL- Question 1- what's in a Hooburrito? A hooburrito is a masterful concoction of fried chicken strips, onion rings, cheese and barbecue sauce all wrapped up in a tortilla, and served w/ Chips and queso. add a little cholula hot sauce, and BRAH!!! buggah is bomb!
NEO
February 26th, 2010 at 8:20 am
@BL: It's an egg white omelet.
