Last One?
By Braddah Lance
No, not da blog..... for now.
Braddah Gregory Yamamoto (THA photog/videographer) had an idea three years ago about doing a "local" whacked out version of da Car Show and while only my name came up as to da only one who was crazy enough to do it - I gotta admit it's been fun evah since.
But little do people know dat I nevah evah know if/wen we are going to film it or not. Da first time was like a day and a half warning then da second time was like da day before, dis time..... about an eight hour warning.
It's nevah scripted. It's not "planned out". All we do is get there, do a quick walk around and make sh...stuff up. Ok, there's usually da "ending prop" but besides dat we just wing it. It's nerve-racking trying to tink of interesting things to say and you really gotta tip your hat off to da people who do dat for a living.
Big props goes out Braddah Greg though cause aftah we've both worked a full day, relax a bit, we head down to shoot film for about two hours and pau at 9pm - fortunately my part is done - but not for him. He has to go through all da clips and edit a ton of footage in just a few short hours aftah getting into work da next day so dat da video will be ready.... all for an eight minute clip.
Muchos Mahalos Greg!
Click hea to see da Wassap Wit Dat! CAR SHOW VIDEO.
For those who didn't get a chance to check out da 2010 First Hawaiian Bank International Auto Show, hea's a few pics.
Started off da night wit some dinnah - Hamburgah steak for Da Wife
Pork Cutlet for me...... Can anyone guess wea dis is from?
Thought da sign was pretty funny asking for change.... I guess da ATM's were pretty busy dispensing 20's all night
Da Wife and I got there about 8ish and it was still pretty packed
Some of da "finer" cars in da show... or should I say cars dat we couldn't afford
Dis Benz was pretty sweet....
And da new 'Vettes weren't too shabby themselves
BMW joined da diesel movement as well as actually shaping their cars to be very aerodynamic as well
Dis Bentley was a real eye catcher.............
But da price tag made your eyeballs pop out
Ford's push to rejuvenate da Mustang
Dis was a very impressive truck
Toyota Sienna is da only minivan to offah an automatic seat "loader & unloader" for anyone dat needs help. It's called da "auto access seat" which is sorta "hand-van" like wea da ENTIRE seat will lower out of da van.
I can't understand why Da Wife said no
Some classic club car action............
There was even da City's Rail informational booth out.... at da "car show"

Wassup Wit Dat!

Das da food from da convention center concessions.
March 29th, 2010 at 1:23 am
Great funny video and nice photos of the vehicles.
Didn't get a chance to go this year. Who makes the mini van under the Toyota Sienna?
March 29th, 2010 at 2:20 am
LMAO... great and funny vid BL.
I got a word of advice for you.. don't go for a cross-over or an SUV, mini-van is the way to go.
I would recomment the Chrysler Town & Country or the Honda.
March 29th, 2010 at 5:28 am
I tried yesterday and today but can't access your video...whackassasafratch! Your previous car show vids were great and was looking forward to annodah one. Maybe you and Greg can do other events like Home & Product shows, Fairs, Korean Festival (w/kimchi review), etc.
Da plate lunch from Tsukenjo?
I like that seat loader/unloader. I wonder how much extra for dis option. Can accommodate adults too? You will find out shortly, but getting your kid in and out of car seats is bad, bad for your back. It is hard to keep da load (kid) centered and puts a strain on back muscles.
March 29th, 2010 at 5:29 am
Nice pics with the queens, but couldn't you have gotten them to put their hands on the hood of the vette' turn and smile back at you
March 29th, 2010 at 5:44 am
What I noticed was gravy over everything, and if that was 9 pm that you finished, then I'm going to guess Rainbow Drive In Plates?
March 29th, 2010 at 5:53 am
Yummy to all counts. Fuud, cars and gals. Wea was Da Wife when you took da 2 Queen pics?
Yeah, no go with dat van.
Eh, last night I tried to watch da video but neva have sound. I go try today.
But why you worry about no mo script? Wing it. You natural
Have fun.
March 29th, 2010 at 5:54 am
Hey Greg, Nice job. BUT STILL NO MO SOUND
March 29th, 2010 at 6:02 am
Get now
March 29th, 2010 at 6:16 am
Howzit BL!
Great job on the video!
March 29th, 2010 at 7:20 am
I didn't get sound too when I tried to play it this weekend but the sound works when I click on the link from this post.
BL, how about a Scion? Had the oppuntunity to drive one this weekend. Pretty cool car.
March 29th, 2010 at 7:41 am
cool pics from da show. plate lunch looks like from rainbows.
March 29th, 2010 at 8:19 am
Negative..... they no give dat much.
Whaddaya mean "under" the Sienna?
..............................................
..............................................
Ugh. Trust me, mini-van is not an option and neither is a SUV. It's between a cross-over or a sedan.
How's about a F-150?
................................................
................................................
Das wat Da Wife said too but wen I check 'em she go. Yet anoddah WWD!... say it wit me..... C-O-N-spiracy.
Well...... we still need to be employed first.
Nope.
It's a very useful option especially for those dat take kea of their elderly but da motor takes a very long time and I nevah ask how much extra it was but I can bet it's more than a jar full of change.
From wat I saw the chair does hold a heavy load and if you look closely at da pic, da mom is already on da chair and holding her kid so dat already is close to 200lbs.
Guess who's doing da loading and unloading?
................................................
................................................
Maybe some oil and a bikini too?
...............................................
...............................................
Not at 9pm. The video shoot was on Thursday night and Da Wife and I went on Saturday night.
................................................
................................................
Obviously not nearby.
C'mon, you know there's always something wrong wit WWD! stuff.
Cause sometimes I say stupid stuff..... ok...... most times I say stupid stuff.
..............................................
..............................................
Mahalos!
Hmmm, not into dat. Plus, I just honorary MLC.... I not "there" yet.
..............................................
..............................................
There were actually a ton more stuff to look at dis year I noticed and nearly every square foot of the show floor was used, not like in years past.
March 29th, 2010 at 8:41 am
... hey Braddah Lance ... nice pics and great job on the video!!! ... where was everyone when you did the video??? ... the showroom looked empty ... or did everyone move out of the way since you were shooting a video??? ...
... haven't been down to a car show in a long time ... 'cause for me ... it's just window shopping ... and dreaming ...
... the real cars I can shop for are at the Toyota or Honda lots ...
... too funny on the sticker price for the Bentley™ ... Gas Guzzler Tax ... hahahaha!!! ....
... Have a Good One Everyone!!! ...
March 29th, 2010 at 8:47 am
Is that a '68 Camaro? Nice!
March 29th, 2010 at 9:05 am
Aloha BL,
Love dat Richie's hamburger steak!
Sorry, bruddah, but I see a minivan in your future. Dat way, get room for future additional keiki and da mother in law. What you gotta do is get da wife to settle for a 4 door sedan.
March 29th, 2010 at 9:18 am
ho dat BL.....what an actah!
good job again....as always! good kine grindz, rides and wahines. ahhh.....life is good!

March 29th, 2010 at 9:24 am
BL~
Happy Monday morning to you and everyone. Kinda rough to have to go back to the "early routine", since my daughter's Spring Break is pau.
I can't see your video from work, so I'll check that out when I get home tonite. If it's anything like the one last year, I'm sure it'll be great.
That black Ferrari caught my eyes...that's my goal in life...to someday change my screen name to ferraridriver
March 29th, 2010 at 9:40 am
Braddah Lance - Tanks fo da MLC plug! Speaking of which, back in the day when our girls were small - mini vans had only passenger side sliding door. Such a hassle for when only 1 parent taking out the kids. Plus our Ford Aerostar didn't have power locks so to lock the sliding door from the drivers seat, Paula used to use a short broom to reach the lock on the sliding door and flick it down.
Then Nissan came out with the Quest - but still didn't have a sliding door on the driver's side. But at least we got one with power locks.
And finally, you say a mini van is not an option. Braddah, when your keiki comes and all you care about is his/her safety - you WILL be considering a mini van. Take my word for it. Plus, if you throw some nice wheels on the mini van - she go!
March 29th, 2010 at 10:00 am
BL... have you thought about purchasing a vechile on the mainland, some place on the west coast and shipping it back to Hawaii?
I purchased a vehicle in Oakland, CA back in 99 if I'm not mistaken and it only cost me $500 to ship it to Hawaii on Matson. It might be cheaper for you to do that way...
March 29th, 2010 at 10:17 am
Current Matson shipping rate, from CA ports = $1072. Premium service rate = $1645.
I also thought about buying & shipping a car back from CA...esp when I drive past those auto dealer blocks.
March 29th, 2010 at 10:49 am
I vote for F150 or Tundra. da buggas get plenny space fo load up da keeds an wen dey ready fo surf jus throw da boards in da back. an if you need moa lock up space jus put one camper top.
March 29th, 2010 at 10:57 am
Yeah I think it's from Richies Drive Inn too! IMO better than Rainbow's (cause old Rainbow's worker place)
Gotta love them 1st generation Camaros! No souped up 2010 Camaros?
Wow those pageant queens are dang tall! (or you super short!) J/K =)
March 29th, 2010 at 11:03 am
ohhh thanks for the pix, I didn't get to go to the auto show this year! Hehe.. I did make it to a car show though! The fuud looks onoz!! NO guess, just yummm....
I gotta watch the vid later, cuz no work on this comp... but I'm sure ya did a great job as always...
March 29th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
oooh...muscle car eye candy. can you say Dom Turetto?!!!! :p
March 29th, 2010 at 1:48 pm
We did da shoot on Thurday night before it opened. Da Wife and I went down on Saturday night.
Well I've gone to a few of da car shows..... still "shopping".
I know - even da Vette gets twice as much mpg's than da Bentley.
...............................................
...............................................
I dunno wat yea it is but there surah were a lot of shiny parts!
..............................................
..............................................
Good try.... but no.
Das wat we leaning towards (sedan) but me and my trucks.......
...............................................
...............................................
Exactly.
..............................................
..............................................
I know and traffic was back to "normal".
...............................................
...............................................
C'mon..... you know once I saw da Scion all I thought of was you.
How much was dat ghetto accessory?
You'd be surprised how da sedans and cross-overs actually have a bettah side/frontal/roll ovah crash rating than dat minivans..... trust me, we checked.
No fo'get da lift, sounds and hydraulics.
................................................
................................................
We thought about it.... especially Oregon (no tax) since our (HI) taxes will be going up but wit da airfare and shipping, might break even.
........................................
........................................
Whoa! Mahalos for da "quote".
..........................................
..........................................
Me too! But too bad ba buggahs waaay out of our price range.... and then it going make me look like I get one big man in little body syndrome wenevah I step out cause da buggahs are hugemangeous!
.........................................
.........................................
Had 'em but I nevah took pics. I like da "new" look of da Camaros.
Eh! They were wearing heels!!!
Ok...... I stay short.
but they were wearing heels.
.......................................
.......................................
I do wat I can.
March 29th, 2010 at 2:20 pm
@BL, the Scion I drove belongs to a 19 year old not a MLCer. He had some nice wheels on it too.
March 29th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
Neat video and nice photos.
We went this weekend to the car show. I went to see if all the hype about the "new" American cars were true. I was disappointed. To me, the USA cars still far behind the Japanese and especially German cars.
Yeah, the imports are expensive, but the quality seems so obvious. Too bad.
The best USA cars were the old ones...the '60's & '70's Camaros and Mustangs were the highlight.
March 29th, 2010 at 3:06 pm
Since not Richie's, must be Grace's?
Mahalos for the pix.
March 29th, 2010 at 6:05 pm
Great pix! My hubby loves to see the car show when it comes to LA. Did you sit in any of the expensive cars? Hubby sat in a couple and even got past the silk ropes to sit in another which I can't remember the name of.
March 29th, 2010 at 10:05 pm
Good job on the video, BL and Greg!
As usual.
Mine never have sound the first time I tried too. I upgraded to the newest version of Flash, den was all good!
So what BL, you like borrow my step stool so you can hang wit the ladies?
I like um back after though, so I can hang with them too!
March 30th, 2010 at 9:24 am
didn't get to watch the video at home yet... i'm sure you're as funny as always! shucks, i didn't get to make it to the car show and i even had free tickets!
i was thinking about buying a minivan before i bought my crv... i really didn't want a minivan either! everyone's right about the sore back part... but putting a baby in a car seat in a higher car (assuming it's not toooo big!) is easier on your back than a sedan. what about a highlander?
March 30th, 2010 at 9:37 am
O.K. BL,
Since you showed us a nice picture of Da Wife’s dinner you’ll have to help me out on my theory of gender prediction for the baby and how it relates to fuud.
Here it goes…
Both times when my wife craved beef we had boys.
When she craved chicken we had a girl. (Well actually, she didn’t crave chicken but she had no taste for red meat.)
After an informal survey of my friends who have kids the theory is running about 80% correct; which is considerably high according to scientific standards. Right?
Help me prove my theory so I can write a dissertation for my internet PhD.
Can any other Kwonics/Lanceformers relate?
March 30th, 2010 at 10:59 am
You could have just said Vin Diesel.
I had to look up "Dom".
.............................................
.............................................
You bullying a 19 year old?

............................................
............................................
I not into American metal too much either but I have to admit though, while their low end cars aren't impressive, their mid-range vehicles have gone through some intensive redesigns. They're looking more "cool".... although their interior needs some work.
You know wat I've begun to notice though? While quality is "obvious", da dash on their "standard" vehicles have begun to look cheapy.
But they also weighed a ton and no frills.
............................................
............................................
Grace's giveaway is their chowfun undah everything..... not Grace's.
...............................................
...............................................
I did sit in a Lambo last yea but didn't care too much to do so dis year. Made no sense if I couldn't start it up and vrrroooom da buggah.
...............................................
...............................................
NO! I like da "view".
.............................................
.............................................
Lose money.
Hopefully someone will invent an easy access seat for baby car seats.
Da Wife doesn't/hasn't even driven my truck (only once) so a Highlander is out.
................................................
................................................
And I always thought dat all da guy had to do was make surah his okole was facing da moon wen..... you know.
March 30th, 2010 at 11:04 am
I going guess that the food is from You Hungry - across the street from the Convention Center.
March 30th, 2010 at 11:22 am
BL, on Sat. my sons soccer team had a game, 19 and under age group. His team mate, the 19 yr. old, suffered a knee injury. The ambulance was called and he was taken to the emergency. Since he doesn't live far from me, I offered to drop off his brand new Scion at his home. That's how I got to drive his car.
March 30th, 2010 at 11:28 am
I miss Kewalo Plate lunches by the sisters. Surf all day and eat all night.
March 30th, 2010 at 12:34 pm
The hamburger steak was for da wife? I can see planny Korean shoyu (Tabasco) mixed in with the gravy.
March 30th, 2010 at 1:07 pm
Okole facing the moon?!?! Ha ha ha!!! No no, with your (cowboy) boots on. Anyway, funny funny! So are you going to tell us the baby name or what? If no one guessed it does that mean it is more obscure or we aren't good guessers? ( there were some pretty good guesses I thought!)
March 30th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Can't be You Hungry... closed down sometime last year... =(
Plus their hamburger steak is my fave, onions and mushrooms in the gravy!!!
March 30th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
Sadly, I've nevah eaten there.
...............................................
...............................................
You are a mean bully.

...............................................
...............................................
Wea dat at? I've nevah heard of 'em.
..............................................
..............................................
................................................
................................................
In Hawaii it would have been slippahs.
There were a lot of excellent guesses! In fact I was mentioning to Da Wife dat I liked 'Taylor' very much! But alas, you'd be really surprised dat no one guessed da name we've tentatively picked and it's kinda a "common" name too.
..............................................
..............................................
But still got da sign up.
Onions and mushrooms in a gravy is da bomb!
March 30th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
Asahi Grill on Ward?
March 30th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
btw............... Rainbows.
March 30th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Should really try and do a side-by-side taste test with Rainbows and Richies.. I think a lot of people would be surprised... =)
March 30th, 2010 at 4:54 pm
Ah, once I read that they only had Red Devil, I KNEW was Rainbows. Das da only drive that has Red Devil sauce instead of Tabasco sauce.
And something about Rainbow's gravy - that goes good with Red Devil sauce. The thing just no taste as good with other place's gravy.
March 31st, 2010 at 6:27 am
Eh, didn't I guess Rainbow Drive In (#6)? OK, I re-read the post, and you only addressed the day of the week that you went (#13). OK, so I guess you just redirected everyone's attention, you tricky guy.
S'okay.
Maybe I'll go there and grab a plate sometime this weekend or next. Kind of windy and I wouldn't want my plate to huli on the ground!
