Perfect

May 20th, 2010
By Braddah Lance

We hea dat word all da time.... but is it just a myth?

"S/he's perfect!" "My new car is perfect!" "Mmmmm. Dis kim chee is perrrrfect!"

Ok, had to throw dat last one out there.

But really, is there such a thing as perfect? Even in baseball's great 134 year old history there's only been 19 "perfect" games where no hits, runs, walks or errors were allowed. 27 up, 27 down (9 innings times 3 batters per inning for those who dunno wat dat means) with da most recent happening just a little ovah two weeks ago on May 9, 2010 by Oakland A's pitcher Dallas Braden.

It's an amazing feat statistically and physically but was it really perfect? I bet you every single one of those 19 pitchers threw at least one ball dat wasn't a strike..... so isn't dat not "perfect"?

I'm one of those dat says "perfect" but always notices something out of da ordinary, some kine of manini flaw or something out of whack latah on. *It's my OCD action*

Wassap Wit Dat!

Da Wife and my friends always says I'm silly cause I'm so "picky" but like I've been telling my 11-12 year old players since da beginning of the season every season, "there's no such thing as perfect because once you're 'perfect', you're satisfied - NEVER be satisfied!"

I tell them to work harder and harder, don't settle. Be happy and enjoy a moment but get back and stay hungry cause once you're satisfied wat more do you have forward to look to? Once you hit dat perfect hit or pitched dat perfect pitch, wat then? You gotta be/stay hungry to do it again cause once you've become satisfied, it's no longer "worth it".

Have you achieved perfection in something? Cooking? Eating? Sports? Work? Life? Once satisfied, did you try to get perfect again or did it turn into a lost cause? Have you told anyone dat they were perfect and at da same time in da back of your mind thought of at least one thing dat you didn't like dat made "perfect" not sound so perfect anymore? No lie eh.

Perfection is - and will always be - in da eye of da beholder.

I guess I'll nevah see perfection........ but I certainly won't be satisfied till I do.

SHOUT OUT:     To Uncle Rod (MidLife Crisis blogger), my colleague, my friend - Sorry to hear about your father passing away and you know dat Da WWD! Hui is hea for you watevah you need.

And since you love to play music games and youtube..... hea's one of my ALL TIME greatest songs dat I love and it's from "your" time.

From Da WWD! Hui to you Uncle Rod.

    Hey Lance,
Wait until you have your baby. She/he will be perfection. At that moment of birth your wife will be perfection. At that moment your baby will be perfection. At that moment nothing AT ALL will match what just happened, it will be perfection.
I went thru it three times and thank the Lord every time. Sorry to say this perfection will not last. The Lord also have the baby’s poop smell.

  2. Ynaku:

    First time I perfect.

  3. Ynaku:

See, nothings perfect. But we can only wish.

  4. snow:

i don't think anything i do is ever perfect... but i do try to do my best each and every time (ahhh, well, most of the time! ;) )! to me, there's always something that could have been done better (that's why i'm often the last one done with some things!)... but, sometimes, that's just me. :? everything is relative!

  5. Ocean Lover:

If you LEARN HOW TO CHANGE DIAPAHS.......you will be "PERFECT" in your wife's eyes! ;-)

    Sorry.......I couldn't resist. ;-)

BL: That song choice was perfect!

  7. Kage:

Perfection is in the eye of the beholder... oh wait, that's beauty. But then again some will say beauty is perfection.

  8. Ynaku:

All my dishes never comes out perfectly the way I want it to. I also keep changing the recipe. As for your Kim Chee, I duuno how perfect it is CAUSE I NEVA TASTE UM YET (hint hint) :D

  9. Ynaku:

OL will make the Perfect Uncle

  10. sally:

BL, I love your teachings to the young 'uns. "Stay hungry" "Never settle"
I'm sure those words will stay in their heads. One day, one (hopefully more) of them will be a famous and successful person and write about how he had a coach who taught him your words to live by.

When we are perfect then we shall cease to live. Right now I am so far behing perfection, I will never die!

  11. 420:

I have to agree with Sally that the song choice for Uncle Rod is PERFECT ;0)

  12. KAN:

Striving for perfection is always good. Achieving perfection is probably not possible. Although perfect moments are possible. No, it doesn't make sense, but neither do I.

(Who said "he may not be 'Mr. Right,' but he's 'Mr. Right Now.'"?)

  13. 9th Island Girl:

Oh, now I understand why every time I ask you how your lunch entree is, you say, "It's all right." It's the tone of your voice that tells me whether it's all right good, or all right so-so. :)

Did I ever achieve perfection in something? No, never, and if I did, I'd be walking on water, too! I have to say that the salmon with wasabi/mayo teri sauce that I made for my family for Mother's Day was pretty close, though!

  14. visitor:

BL - I agree that "perfect" is something to strive for, but cannot be ever be really attained. In Olympic sports, I don't see how any performance can be judged a "10." No performance is without some flaw and cannot be improved upon.

Today, it's just common talk to say, "perfect" or "absolutely." That's another word...absolutely, that is used too loosely.

  15. visitor:

@#14 - Sorry, typo on first sentence...extra "be"

I guess with dat..... I going live forevah.

  17. Seawalker:

BL, the wife calls me the "perfect" well-oiled machine between the sheets. Hehehe.

I was just wondering. Who wears the pants around the house? People at work are telling me that it depends. If you live closest to your own parents, then you are the boss. But if you're living closer to your in-laws, then your better half is the boss. Shoots, I guess my name should include the word "wimp" since we’re closer to the in-laws. True or false?

Mom always says there's no such thing as 100%. So I think her message to me growing up was you don't need to strive for perfection. But I think you have to look at your life overall. Is there something you want changed? If nothing, then I think you got the perfect life going.

Thank you for keeping your blog going, especially with all the talk about the job fair going on. Sometimes, when you least expect it, it'll just happen. And it'll happen for a very good reason.

    hence the saying "nobody's perfect"
    except there was that girl..........

  23. Coconut Willy:

I agree with what you're saying about staying hungry, but the person has to have that drive in them. I kinda lost that drive and interest playing sports in HS. Maybe if I had better mentors (like you) back then, things would have been different.

  24. Rosette:

better off to be half perfect..you have room and less stress.

  25. Rosette:

that is why I am half messy half clean.. I have half messy room..flexible...so if you are bored you can keep yourself busy cleaning and no one cares!

  26. Rosette:

if you start getting picky you will notice every flaw and it will drive you crazy...that is why I trained my oldest do not be perfectionist it is not healthy.....you have to learn to tolerate if you see a bit of scratch on the table you can add more scratch no problem.... ! I am half perfectionist...if the get too picky oh dear! more relaxing if you can tolerate imperfection.

  27. Rosette:

I think certain things have to be perfect..like if you build a building....well I suppose things get old so no matter how much you build you need to maintain...well money counting has to be done perfectly or you will have missing cash..omg...with diapers you have to do that perfectly..omg.....I PERFECTED RELAXING!

  28. Rosette:

well example today I was out shopping for purse and shoes I wanted it to be perfect...so I ask the lady which one is the best looking purse to go with the shoes....if I want things to be perfect I ask a lady to help me... sometimes if you want things to be perfect ask second opinion...I can tell the lady worker has class....so I go with her opinion she seems to have class.

  29. King Katonk:

The only thing I am perfect at is making mistakes. The sad thing is I don’t even have to try – it just happens. WWD?!

  30. bamboohouse808:

We all strive for perfection. But I think we just do the best we can and try and be happy with how things work out. If we lucky enough to get another chance, we try for do even better. The strive for perfection is what pushes us to be better.

What is perfect to one is not all that perfect to others? One will always be criticized by others who think they are Better.

What is perfect is how one feels after what is done not concerned about what others think.
