Yiiipppeeeee.... Traffic

I know, I know. Who da heck gets happy about traffic?

Someone with a job does, das who! And a real job at that too!

It's been a whirlwind for me the past month and a half but moreso in the last week and a half and I'm exhausted. My body is still getting used to waking up early, the shorter sleep hours and trying to get things done at home in three to four hours what I'd normally get done throughout the entire day. And dat's just da tip of da iceberg.

In early August I was offered - and accepted - a position with the State in the courts system but was told the hiring process took a long time.

No problemo I told the State cause after a year of interviews and constantly being told I was over-qualified (for the same position I've been in the past 10 years), I was relieved that someone finally saw the upside of being "over-qualified". The hiring department "warned" me of the lengthy process but I never figured it to be that long.

The "process" took nearly six weeks and I still wasn't given a start date. I had to go through several "approvals" through differing levels of management, a background check, fingerprinting and several rounds of other "approvals" and internal paperwork.... and this was just for an Account Clerk position.

I tink it's easier to run for Governor, da highest position in da State. Let da state jokes begin.

Long story short, on a Thursday a few weeks ago, the State had called to check up on me to see if I was still interested in the position.

Uh, yeah.... are you?

Then the next day Friday, I got an offer from a leading health care company and gladly accepted it as it was a great fit and everything fell in line with the needs of my family. They were looking for me to start immediately and after finishing up formalities there, last Monday I get a call asking me to start the next day.

I really wanted to start a week later since Da Baby's first luau was da same week and things needed to get done but after geting a second call from them trying to reconfirm an earlier start date from me, I now have added to da traffic congestion since last Thursday.

And hence da delay in replies and late posts. I'll still be posting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but unfortunately my responses will be delayed but nevertheless will be read and answered as I've done in the past. I truly do appreciate reading all those who take da time to post so Mahalo to you.

Guess who's been trying to contact me as well last week?

Da City.

Ha ha ha! Amazing yeah? Aftah 15 months of struggling and trying to land a job, I get 3 offers in a mattah of weeks....

Wassup Wit Dat!

And for those wondering, no, dis blog is not a job.... it's an adventure.

Congratulations on your new job. With 3 offers on the table, you must have weighed da plus and minuses...huuu, how good is that! Da pay, da fringe benefits, da traffic (all in town and rush hour hours?), da retirement (nevah too young to tink about dat) and work environment, you know, AC, proper tools and equipment to work with and most important of all...your fellow co-workers and da boss. I have been lucky to have very good bosses and co-workers for most of my career which is why I'm reluctant to retire next year but work too long already and ready for a change.

  34. Ocean Lover:

Speaking of City workers.........I just walked by Alapai and Beretania across the BWS and there's two city trucks with the cherry pickers TAKING DOWN LAST YEAR'S CHRISTMAS LIGHTS that they must've FORGOT to take down last January when the bulk of the Honolulu City Lights got taken down and put away.

Now there's nothing wrong with that yet considering they've stayed up on the trees for the last 9 months and that in another month and a half they're gonna go right back up........WWD?

    OL.............leave up da lights auready!
