I Plead Da FITH

As you may already have assumed by my Korean background, I enjoy spicy grinds - or at least spicy condiments - so it's not often - rare in fact - dat da BL household was out of one.

Unlike most oddah people, I buy spicy condiments Sam's Club size and das da only way I roll so if they no carry da spice then I buy da biggest bottle there is at da supahmarket. Hea's a quick breakdown of wat I got:

Sriracha
Tabasco
Bull Snort jalepeno juice
Korean chili peppah
Shichimi (Japanee chili peppah)
Kilauea Fire Hawaiian style hot sauce
Spicy mustards
Wasabi
Sweet chili sauce
Garlic chili peppah paste
Hot peppah jelly
Spicy bbq sauce
Crushed red peppah
Kochujang

I tink das all I could see and remembah.

Dis past Sunday Da Wife was in da mood for pizza so of course gotta oblige right? But wat's pizza without hot sauce? Aftah grabbing a slice, I look for da sriracha. A'ole.

BL: "Babe, wea's da sriracha?"
DA WIFE: "Did you look in the fridge?"
BL: "Uh, yeah?"
DA WIFE: "Did you look in the pantry?"
BL: "No more. I thought we had anoddah bottle."
DA WIFE: "If it's not in the fridge and it's not in the pantry, then we must be out huh? We just have to pick up the next time we're at Sam's."
BL: "So wat I going eat da pizza with?!?"

Trust me, pizza is not da same without hot sauce. Strike dat.

Pizza is not da same without sriracha.

I tried oddahs: chili peppahs, tabasco, jalepeno and even jalepeno juice but it's just not da same.

So determined dat a bottle of sriracha was buried in da pantry, I go digging and dis is wat I found......

You read right. Da WORLD'S HOTTEST PEPPER!

I completely fo'got I had dat bottle. A friend of mine had given it to me late last year wen she came back home from Seattle and I'll admit it........ I was afraid of it.

Wassup Wit Dat!

Well, wen da words "World's Hottest Pepper" is on da label, it makes one tink about ingesting it and eventually having a FITH (Fire In The Hole). Maybe calling 911.

I had an opportunity about eight years ago on a trip wit Da Wife - who was Da Girlfriend at da time - and there was a full grown Ghost Pepper on my jambalaya dat da server said was for "decoration only" and to not eat it. I was tinking "just decoration? WWD!" all da while Da Girlfriend was chiming in saying "don't even think about it."

But of course I did cause everyone said not to.

Well, I took a very very manini bite da size of a chili peppah flake and da buggah was HOT!

Back to da inferno at home, since I was desparate for a little spice and curiosity got da best of me, I decided to opened da bottle and tasted it with a toothpick. Not bad. It was tasty but then da heat came. I convinced myself could handle so I poured it into a dish and dis is wat da last slice of pie ended up looking like....

Da top of da pizza is usually white.

And yes, I ate da crust dat was drenched in da sauce too. Then dis is wat I looked like aftah five slices......

You can't really see it but my cheeks were flushed and I was sweating like it was 102 degrees outside. You could literally get a sunburn from me if you stood too close. I'm surprised da lens on my camera phone didn't fog up.

Sadly, Tabasco will nevah be da same now and has now downgraded in da heat scale for me.

Can you handle spicy foods? Or is tabasco your hottest? Wat's da hottest thing you evah ate? Do have to spice things up wen you eat? Just noticed dat all da "hot sauces" has vineagar - how come? Have you evah had a FITH? Have you evah done a "spicy" challenge?

    LOL! I actually did!

Sriracha is about the hottest I like. I can usually take more heat but don't really enjoy it (any more).

  2. Glenn D:

Howzit, BL. No, I neva had da FITH. I usually no like my foods to be too spicy but fo pizza, I use Cholula, Tapatio, or Tabasco and sometimes dem chili flakes da pizza joint gives you. The heat scale fo all of dem are about da same, yah? I also use tobajian wen I make mapo tofu or mapo eggplants. Even den, I only use real manini portion. You know, some folks like torture themselves and go fo habanero or Thai chili peppers but not me. Wen it gets too spicy (too much capsaicin) food starts to turn bitter and no can taste da food no more. Hottest thing I eva had was siracha spaghetti (not thinking straight, yah?) and ended up with a stomachache aftah. My wife's da one dat puts tabasco on everything. Ouch!

  3. Bowling Buddy:

Not Korean. My taste buds cannot handle anything more than tabasco. Even the taco bell mild sauce is hot to me. Whippy mouth.

  4. DIO:

Tabasco downgraded? Brah, comparing Tabasco to Bhut Jolokia is like comparing a dud firecracker to a nuclear bomb!

  5. Keoni:

OMG BL, just reading this gave me heartburn!
Needless to say I cannot handle anything hotter than tabasco, and that not very often.
For me, very hot/spicy condiments completely mask any flavor in the food. The burning is all that I can sense.

  6. M:

    Howzit BL!
Sriracha iz bout da most I can handle.

Be safe everyone, no drive if you no need....

  7. Lowtone123:

I love hot sauces on a lot of thing although probably not on your level BL. For me I usually go with da Rooster Sauce (Sriracha) because I've found it to be just the right amount of heat but it has good flavor too and a little thick so it doesn't just run off da food. I thought it would make a good base for hot wings. I tried it and WINNAHS!

  8. dihudfan:

no can handle... what goes in... comes out... quickly......ugh...

  9. rayboyjr:

    Good Morning Everyone!!!

... hey Braddah Lance ... too hot is just insane ... the heat is enjoyable for a while but then ... the mouth is numb, the tastebuds are fried, the face is read, the head is itchy ... not to mention the sweating and need to try to douse the fire with water or ice ...

... I moderate my heat so the food is still enjoyable ...

... I haven't had it in a while, but this one take-out place makes a spicy BBQ pork plate ... I think Sriracha is mixed in with their teriyaki sauce ... winnahs!!! ... kinda wanna go get that now ...

    ... Have a Good One Everyone!!! ...

  10. Sue Mason:

Have you tried the peppers from Saipan? Heard they are HOT!!!

  11. Mows:

BL you nuts cuz. Anything with habanero or ghost pepper is not edible. Das like bacardi 151, not fit for human consumption, only good to put in the gas tank.

  12. cojef:

We have tabasco every morning with the eggs. That's it, too makule to try anything else. Till last week bought the smallest bottle, got tired having to replac empty bottle often, so got the next size up. You look okay, but not like your Wassup Wit Dat face. Wow, must be really hot!

  13. Ocean Lover:

My son, "Little Ocean Lover" (LOL) is on the mainland and went to a place that has these chicken wings made with ghost peppers, its dipped in some sauce. LOL said they had to wear gloves to eat it and they didn't finish all and brought some back to the dorm. They gave these leftovers to another kid without telling him and he put the wing in his mouth, and promptly BARFED!

Some things just shouldn't be eaten.........

  14. sally:

I definitely no can hando! I don't eat foods the color of fiyah!

I like a leeeetle bit Sriracha for flavor but not to disguise the original food. Mostly, I don't eat "spicy" stuff cuz I don't like the taste... not so much because it's too hot.

So yah, sorry, but I don't eat wasabi, kim chee, shoyu mustard, tabasco, dat kine stuffs. Don't judge me :)

  15. sally:

My daughter, on the other hand, is a spicy lover!

She once made Soondubu Jjigae to take to someone's house, I wasn't watching how she was doing it cuz, well, one look in the pot and it looked like fire.

Few days later I found a big bag of Korean Chili Flakes on the shelf. omg.

Still wondering if she was switched at birth.

  16. Kage:

    I no can handle anymore.

The hottest I tried was the habanero. Never again.
I do not even get close to anything that states Ghost Pepper.

Shiracha is the hottest I would go for at this point in my life.

  17. sally:

A friend in our gang makes what everyone else calls a kick-a$$ dip. He uses habaneros so I don't even go near it. Scared!!!

  18. kamaaina808:

Ahahaha omg. I saw that last night on my ipad while visiting "Auntie Loo" - funny timing, dat. :D I don't like hot stuff - even ginger sometimes makes dat little tickle in my throat & i end up coughing my head off. Anyway, I don't know whether to say you stay brave or jus' plain lolo. :-P

  19. Keoni:

I think some people are born with not just a cast iron stomach but with a cast iron mouth and taste buds too! Maybe with a lil' bit asbestos thrown in?

  20. jaydee:

I can handle the heat but I know I going pay for it in the end....literally! lol

  21. M:

    Guud morning BL!

  22. KAN:

I wondered if you had tried it. I figured if anyone could handle it, it would be you!
