Wassup Wit Dat!

You Worried?

March 13th, 2015

I've always wondered who da heck makes up superstitions/lores dat we've grown accustomed to. Do they just sit around and shotgun beers or maybe they just had a bad batch of pakalolo - who knows. 🙄

Today is Friday da 13th - in case you nevah know - and while I've nevah been freaked out about it, apparently choke people are. Amazingly enough there's even a name for it, Paraskavedekatriaphobia, which is "the fear of Friday the 13th".

While just da number "13" doesn't strike fear into me, I don't dismiss it as well. I won't bet against it, I'll nevah wear a jersey printed on it and I'm just glad da dice at da crap tables in Vegas only goes up to 12. I'm not especially going to walk under any ladders or break mirrors but I still "respect" da fact that it's unlucky.

As quoted from Wikipedia:

According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina, an estimated 17 to 21 million people in the United States are affected by a fear of this day.

Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed. "It's been estimated that [US]$800 or $900 million is lost in business on this day".[5]

Despite this, representatives for both Delta and Continental Airlines say that their airlines don't suffer from any noticeable drop in travel on those Fridays.[13]

17 to 21 million people don't even wanna get out of bed cause of Friday the 13th?

Wassap Wit Dat!

I thought that was already a gimmie on ANY given day! 😆

And da thought that da economy is hit $800 or 900 million on this "special day" is kinda shocking if anything. And, really, wen da heck would ANY airline say NOT to travel? 🙄

Are there any superstitions you absolutely "fear"? Do you purposely avoid any bad luck omens - black cats, cracks on da sidewalk, whistling at night? Are you afraid of anything? Off tangent a little, but wat's da scariest movie you've evah saw?

FGF will always trump Friday da 13th....... well, untill WWD! rolls around. 😀

Have a grrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeat weekend!

    Howzit BL,

It's just another numbah. My sons jersey numbah while he played soccer was always 13.
    Happy FGF!

Never celebrate your birthday early its bad luck.

Mom used to always tell us this and got mad once when my brothers friends took him to dinner on Saturday before his Monday birthday.

The day before my mother died she went out to dinner with my brother and the aunt that raised him. It was my aunt's birthday and a week before mom's. Honestly a true story.

Try not to buck any superstition and yet, do not go the extremes as staying bed all day. May be that's why had to adopt a child?

I don't usually get freaked out by Friday the 13th, but I always take notice and feel a little uneasy. Like Kage, my mom will not celebrate birthdays early!

I don't bother with Friday the 13th, breaking mirrors, and all of the other superstitious stuff, simply because none of it was ever fully explained to me.

The only superstition that ever made any sense to me, was the one about walking under a ladder. It's not about it being bad luck, and more about it being unsafe. If you walk under a ladder while someone is on the ladder doing work, and they drop something, chances are, the item will fall downward to some point under the ladder. If you happen to be under the ladder at that time, you're going to get hit with that object.
