Wassup Wit Dat!

Shakanack Review: Regal Kapolei Commons 12

July 14th, 2016

Contrary to belief, Da Wife and I don't go out much and if/when we do, it's pretty much a been there-done dat kine of thing so wen she said she wanted to go see a movie as our date/anniversary night, I was surprised to say da least considering we've only watched about five movies in an actual theater in da last decade.

I know, I know.... Wassup Wit Dat!

In fact I probably can list da movies: Star Wars-The Force Awakens, Twilight (da first one), Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers... ok, maybe I can't.

We decided to check out da newly built theaters at Kapolei Commons since they boasted a new way to watch movies with reclining seats and food trays amongst oddah things.

I no get "invited" to sample these places. I no get reimbursed for meals eaten. I no get asked/told by The Honolulu Star-Advertiser to check these places out so wat you get is a legit, straight up review from a local braddah who loves ono kanack kine grindz as much as he loves his beer.

Was a classic WWD! moment wen a 'brand new' place had stuff broken already. Dis watah feature does its own little Bellagio watah show synchronized with lights. It's a kid magnet too so watch out for little ones running around.

Reminded me of college lecture halls with swing out desks.

Da controls to recline. I gotta say dat da motor to lift da leg rests and recline were awesome! Pressure sensitive to control speed and really fast and quiet motor.

Da popcorn box is HUGE now wea you can pour out da popcorn from da bag into da box and it doesn't 'leak' either!

Perfect for short Asians! 😆 They left more than enough space dat when you're legs are fully extended, people can still walk by without having to put da leg rest down.

A word of (WWD!) warning, do NOT place your hands/fingahs in between da seat cushions - you're going to regret it! Thank goodness I nevah but I noticed dat da seats aren't wiped down between shows nor are their food trays. You can see all da 'sticky' soda residue around da cup holder.

So hea's da breakdown:

Five Shakas and a Howzit Howzit!

Considering da theaters are still new, it was a nice setup. Da exterior is a decent size to meet up with people and once da one or two restaurants open up, I can only imagine it'll be a one stop night out to dine and watch. Da food lines had every register open so no one had to wait in line long for their goodies and they even had decent non-traditional movie theater foods like cheeseburgers, chicken tenders and oddah stuff you nevah would expect in a theater. It was also a sign of da times dat we ordered our tickets online and just had to show da barcode on our smartphones aftah we got our snacks. Da seats were supah comfy, da reclined positions were numerous and you felt like a rock star. One suggestion though, bring wipes - antibacterial - to wipe down your seat and tray and keep your hands away from da black hole cause you nevah know wat's in there.

Three Shakas and Bumbye

Da price of movies is pretty expensive especially if it's +1 or with ohana but just da chairs alone is kinda worth it especially if you're watching a long movie. For those ordering online, there is a convenience fee of $3 (per transaction I believe) but you're able to "reserve" your actual seat! Now dat was supah cool although you could also save a great deal should you buy your tickets from credit unions or Costco. And it wouldn't be WWD! if we nevah witness da three times da seats next to us had people in da wrong seats and bussing out their tickets to show each oddah 'proof' dat they in da wrong seat. Too funny, how people no can even find da right seats even though get da big numbahs in plain sight directly on da trays. 😆 Da concession prices though is wat dropped a shaka from da rating as we all know it's ovah priced but we still buy 'em; at least da popcorn and no lie, you carry big purse or wear cargo shorts for a reason. 😉 😉

Four Shakas and Auuu'right!

If you into movies, you gotta check out Regal Theaters at Kapolei Commons - those chairs really make a difference. Nothing more I can say oddah than just bring those wipes and enjoy da show.

    Howzit BL!

I think I'll sleep through the whole movie sitting in chairs like that. hahaha

  2. GA Bows:

We have a few theater like that here in GA. There's 2 that's nearby us, where you can press a button to call a "waiter/waitress" to take your order and deliver it to you.

  3. AJ:

Hmm... that theatre is pretty far from us. Not sure I would go just for new seats. And why don't they clean it???

    What movie did you see?

  4. cojef:

Quit going to movie houses 20 years ago with my sciatica problems. Leg cramps so had to watch the movie standing up near the back entrance. Your experience with new seems okay, but nothing like it where we live in southern california.

  5. Ynaku:

Yep bring dem wipes. We order small popcorn and drink cause MOST times they going ask you to upgrade to medium. But my WWD moment when I tried that, she fooled me and was going give me the small bag. I had to quickly ask to make it medium and make like my son wanted popcorn too. Ai da shame. Busted She only laugh.

Cargo pants carry the Arare and Furikake?

Now if only Hilo would upgrade their seats to recliners 😆

  6. Makiki:

We have a couple of theaters near me (mainland) that serve food and (alcoholic) beverages at your seat. The recliners are manual though. Also makes for an expensive evening.

  7. wafan:

Recliners are dangerous! I think my snoring would bother folks.

  8. 9th Island Girl:

    I'm with wafan.
